Nope, two rear sprockets

• #1653
ah, I see.

• #1654
What size is the 853?
If you singlespeed the Brompton and don't like it you could always make.it a 2 speed.
The reason didn't go 2 speed is I only ever used one gear. -

Is there a weight saving with the fsa chainset?
-
• #1656
56cm I think from memory. Possibly 54.

The 2-speed tensioner-cum-mech is a nasty plastic piece of shit that doesn’t work very well to start with, and then begins to give up the ghost if you so much as give it a filthy look, let alone ride with it in filthy weather; the partly metal tensioner used for 1 and 3 speed actually works okay and doesn’t look like it’s designed for a toy bike; and a single gear is always enough when push comes to shove. Always.

Is this what I need to ditch the front mudguard?

I think on mine the hook is separate from the mudguard stay. Can't you just take the bolt out, remove the mudguard stay and then put the bolt back with the existing hook only in place?
Why do you want to remove the guards? I'm not sure how you would wheel the folded bike around without a rear guard or rack. The rear mudguard on my (rackless) Brompton has a castor on it.

There's no Ti frame - just forks and rear triangle. You can buy them separately. I bought mine from Brilliant Bikes. Supply is pretty erratic though.

oh haha, how miss leading. cheers tho

I'm trying to ditch as much weight off it as poss. I was going to remove the rack and front guard and fit a rear guard with the little wheel in it.
I'm not sure.if I follow you exactly but the hook seems to be part of the mudguard stays. Anyone know if it's possible to remove the front guard but retain the hook?
Will the rear rack just come off easily or will there be some.weird Brompton complication?

Have a look at the PDF here:

The black plastic hook that goes over the chainstay when the bike is folded is mounted onto the NDS mudguard stay.
-
• #1667
Yes, I was confused. You can remove the hook from the stay on my bike (as per 'Standard Hub' in the PDF) but you can't bolt it back in place of the stay mount. Looks like @sacredhart will need that hook he linked to in his previous post.

Anyone got a 2speed with straight bars for sale?

Anyone know the best place to get a Brompton serviced.
Evans (urghhh) do a full for £175 (!!) only 75 less than I paid.I'm looking at £60 tops?

Not what you are looking for but I've been considering biting the bullet on taking mine straight to the horse's mouth..
https://bromptonjunction.com/store/london/
Probably also a bit of a rip-off but I don't think I have the patience to tackle mine myself anymore. It's utterly fcuked in loads of ways, and my last attempt at buying tools to tackle the BB/headset myself just led to cuts, bruises and much swearing (having built several 'normal' bikes without these problems!)...
Anyone used that store?

What replacement chains do people use - just the official ones or is there a better alternative? Looking at you @BringMeMyFix

I think it was an 8 speed KMC thing. I use their budgetish offerings for everything. No ponderous thought process involved in those kind of decisions.

I'm considering taking mine to Ealing Cycles for a service and maybe a bit of an upgrade (crankset/brake levers), which is where I bought it. I'll let you know the price. I'd rather give my money to my LBS.

Yes but which cranks should I buy?????

Dude at London fields cycles did mine. I paid for two hr service. He did the things I asked in under that so spent the remainder of the time doing a load of other tweaks which I thought was decent of him. They are an approved dealer.
does the 2-speed have two front chainrings? My poor old brommie is a long time earlier than that.
