Wouldn't surprise me, it's quite pro America, it's still good and draws you into the characters well. I rewatched Gran Torino recently and that does the same thing, you end up routing for a miserable old racist in that and you end up quite enamored with a guy in this who personally kills a fuck tonne of people. A lot of the 'bad guys' are quite one dimensional but it's a film from the main character's point of view, not an overview of the war and it's pros and cons.
Yeah, but he's a miserable old racist with a heart of gold who overcomes his miserable racism to do something heroic for the slopes. That's why I rooted for him.
Although whether he would have done the same thing had he not been dying, I dunno.
