I must try that! (I'm on a firm block but wouldn't mind firmer)
Better looking clip would be good though...
I had some of these somewhere, had bought them from a boat shop in France, just because they looked good... that could finally be a use for them!

That is a really neat idea. I think I have some pipe clips lying about actually might give this a try tomorrow.

I think I UTFS correctly but do the Swisstop BXP pads fit normal Brompton brake shoes?
-
• #1631
Yes. Swissstop greens do, anyway.

Cheers, this blog post seems to concur.

No worries - whenever you can. Ahh I see the Brompton is for the g/f, I just assumed it was a new addition to the stable.

Just wanted to say if anybody was ever in a dilemma over 2 speed deraileuer tensioner thingy or 3 speed sturmey. Opt for 2 if only because there is less of a caffafle when changing the tyre or inner tube.
Sorry if this has been covered already but I have only just experienced the ease of doing it with a tensioner. Yes,, let your imagination run wild. Merry Xmas

The Sram Apex crankarm is a double, is it not? You need 2 or 3 spacers to clear the frame .. doesn't this thow out the chainline?

First puncture - what a PITA. Chucked a patch on for now. It'll have to do.

I have a question for the Brompton thread:
I currently have a pretty old Brompton. It was an original 5 speed. Since I have changed a few bits.
New style front caliper, ti clamps, new saddle + tyres. I have had the bushings serviced. The big change is I single speeded it which dropped a lot of weight. My question is, if I sell it and get a new (or nearly new one) will I notice much difference? Has the frame lost any weight? I know the brake levers are different and they have a locking rear triangle, but are the new ones the same as mine but with some tiny changes or would it be noticably lighter/ better?

The newer one have some new feature that you can upgrade to (i.e. the triangle clip to prevent wheel from folding when picking it up), the main difference is the longer main tube due to the new hinge.

How did you find the move to single speed? I also have a very old 5 speed (not to mention your old rear wheel, thank you very much)
For my part, I always dread having to ditch my big bike and ride the Brompton and then utterly love riding it. I should upgrade the brakes though, they are dreadful on mine.

I found upgrading the front caliper to the newer dual pivot was a lot better.
The single speed wheel was a big improvement. The 5 speed gears never really worked that smoothly and I found the ratios weird. 1 very very easy gear, 2 The one I used all the time, 3 4 5 angry commuter gears. It made a big difference on the weight which was the main reason I did it.

Hmmm, maybe I'll make a move to singlespeed.
Either my Brompton should go singlespeed, or I have a campag 853 Ribble which I have often thought about making fixed, but really love as it is.

Thanks @edscoble!
Next question Can I remove the rear rack and mudguards? The rack has some extra little wheels on the back to roll it on when folded, i guess it just rests on the rear wheel. What I can't see is how the hook on the front guard that hooks onto the stay when folded is replaced. Is there one that clamps on the fork?

I've never seen the point of singlespeed on Brompton over 2 speed as you have to have a tensioner anyway and the weight difference is negligible
Yea pics plz
