  • Yeah i had them on an old path racer. crazy drop. I think i'm going to give the Srams a go. Getting matchy matchy aero levers too. *ponce

  • Don't, very likely the SRAM will not be long enough for your drop (usually 49mm on those short reach brakes).

  • @beseku Not Herne Hill, but have found Turner's on Barry Rd SE22 0HX reasonably pro/trustworthy.

  • Tbh I thought you were just quite stupid.

  • That's the nicest thing that's been said to me today

  • There's a reason for that!

  • SRAM will not be long enough for your drop (usually 49mm on those short reach brakes)

↑What he said. SRAM did vaguely threaten deeper drop (57mm, still not enough for @Apone ) on Apex, but even that didn't materialise, presumably because there just aren't frames requiring them in anybody's product line.

  • *sigh. Ed, that's not a normal short reach road caliper. It's designed for cyclocross and clearance for 28c tyres. It is a different shape to a normal road caliper with a visibly longer drop. The question is: how long IS it. If you don't know, that's FINE.

  • Hmmm cheers. Trying find out what was on the frame originally, it's not a massive drop. Frame's a 2010 Boardman Comp SC and I'll be fitting mudguards.

  • It's designed for cyclocross

Nope. That's just Evans being incompetent. Actually, any standard drop road brake will clear 28mm tyres as long as the frame and fork manufacturer put the holes in the right place to exploit most of the 49mm drop. SRAMs claims about 28C compatibility might mean that they've checked for brake caliper clearance even at the minimum drop, but sometimes the fork crown or brake bridge will be the limit in that case anyway.

  • Found it! They were Tektro R730s. So 47-57mm drop. My measurement was diagonal, so I take it the proper way is to measure vertically. Cheers.

  • Trying find out what was on the frame originally

    LMGTFY.

Tektro R730, they're 47-57mm drop, Spa Cycles have them

  • Is a laminate kitchen worktop likely to be fit for purpose as a bathroom countertop covering the toilet cistern and with a basin on top?

The bathroom-specific work surfaces I've seen mention special waterproofing, but would the kitchen laminate have the same sort of protection?

    Specifically:

  • Beat you to it. Ta.

  • What's the recommended chain for my 10spd sram apex drivetrain?

it came with a PC1051 Chain with Powerlock

  • If your plan is to either replace once a year, or fit and flog, then fine. Otherwise avoid.

Kind of answered your own question there, if you want SRAM's recommendation. If you want a second opinion, here's two; Wippermann 10S0 or KMC X10-93. I think the Wippermann shifts better, but millions of satisfied customers say KMC is fine too.

  • Why is that?

    Form or function?

  • Water will get behind the laminate and blow the core quicker

  • Old SunTour XCD touring group, complete with old condor bike I just bought to do up for the ladyfriend®

    Snog, marry, avoid?

I have no idea how good/valuable SunTour is really, though I understand some of it has a cult following...

  • Cheers dears.

  • It's designed for cyclocross and clearance for 28c tyres.

Any modern short reach brakes can be used with 28mm tyres*

    *depend on frame.
