  • Events list is up on CTT (http://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/Events-List), here are the best bits :)

    18/07/15 24HR D24HR 13:00 NS IE
RTTC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP (Mersey Roads Club) (Entries close 23/6/15)

    23/08/15 12HR D12/1 06:00 NS IE B
RTTC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP (WCTTCA<TCA)(Entries close 28/7/15)

  • Nat 24 a week before transcontinental. Well that's not happening then.
    How shit.

  • Anyone in the Midlands, I'm running the Midland Championships on the 9th August on the K41/10 (great for fixed). May have a fastest on fixed prize!

  • I think I've seen somebody, maybe @Ordinata with a duomatic Sturmey for time trials? Is it any good? Does it have good efficiency in top gear as i believe the short is direct? And does it break as many forums suggest?

  • If you're gonna ride fixed for time trials man up and do it properly, don't mess about with pseudo fixed variable gears.

  • Fair enough but sometimes the wind fxxks you up

  • Yeah, and PBP overlaps with Nat 12hr. There's just too much racing on.

  • Nor vintage suspension for that matter.

  • Pedal harder. If I had gears I'd want at least 9 of them.

  • That's the same for any kind of gear

  • Is it any good?

Dérailleurs took over from hub gears in TTs for a reason.

Fixed = up to ~98.5% efficiency
Dérailleurs = up to ~97% efficiency
Hub gears (oil lubrication) = up to about ~95% efficiency in direct drive, falling by about 2% for each stage of gearing.

Some tests put the hub gears at an even worse disadvantage than that.

If you use the overdrive as your down hill gear, so you ride most of the course throwing away 5-10W compared with an identical fixed gear, you can't make up the time by missing out on the spin-out losses we suffer on fixed, as you're only doing those high speeds for a short time and you're losing some more power in the transmission which brings you back closer to those on fixed whose power has dropped off at high cadence.

  • sometimes the wind fxxks you up

If it's windy, you're not going to PB whatever transmission you have. Fuck the wind.

    Windfucker:

  • Tnx, appreciate. I see your point with having the direct gear as the shorter. Wonder if the sram autoamtix would be any better

  • Wonder if the sram autoamtix would be any better

#HTFU would be better. @pnut rides (and wins) SPOCO events on single fixed.

  • Lol, that's what she said. Fair enough

  • Too much racing. Shame I wanted to have a run at the 24 and 12.
Maybe I'll still do the 12. Depends...

  • Well you likely won't have me to beat. I'll probably ride the Newbury 12 and be beaten by Tops again.

  • Is that a fast one? When is it?

Maybe I'll just find a 'fast' 12 and 24 to ride. As nationals don't work.

  • There is only one 24hr and as for 12hr fast - it depends. It's my PB course but I didn't race anything else and other people have gone further on other courses, i.e. no idea.

I thought you were doing TransEuropeExpress?

  • Yeah, I am. If another race works while I've long distance form then it would be rude not too.

Only 1 24h in the whole year? Nationals. Shame.
    I'll have a look at other 12h.

  • Yeah, it's annoying as it meant I had to put all my eggs in the one basket. Much stress. I guess it's useful too in that regard as there's no backup event so have to make the one race count.

ECCA has had 300mi rides in the past but when I rode the Nationals there it was ~7-10mi slower for everyone due to the wind. The course that PNUT rode last year is obviously good enough for 300mi rides. Um, don't think the Welsh or the Kent courses have ever had superfast rides but that could just be because they've been shunned a bit by fast riders heading to Breckland instead (which is no longer used).

  • Thanks dude. I'll look into the dates for those on CTT. Appreciate it.

  • Newbury - Jun 14
    Wales - Jun 21
    Team Swift - Jul 26
    ECCA - Aug 16
    National D12/1 - Aug 23

  • There's a Texas 24hr in September I was thinking about. http://tt24tt.com/
