• Anyone had any problems with the micro torque key? I've managed to damage two of them now when tightening stem bolts.

In both cases I was using a torque wrench with an adapter. Both times the key has slipped off of the bolt at an angle and got damaged. Now the key doesn't sit right in the bolt and can't be tightened. I'm checking with atomic22 to see if the want the keys back in case there was a bad batch, though I figure it was probably just me being clumsy.

  • I managed the same thing with a micro torque key when tightening my seatpost bolt. I'm convinced I had it in straight and didn't over torque but something obviously happened to make it slip and the key was damaged to the point it was unusable.

Now I've a replacement key and I've since been super careful and insanely precise with every single crank of the bolt. So far so good but it's not often I make any adjustments.

Thank goodness it's the key that fails and not the bolt.

  • Good to know, thanks. I guess I just wasn't careful enough. It's amazing how little damage there would appear to be on the key and how much of a difference that makes to the fit.

@dancing james Yeah the rest of mine have been the same, always felt really solid when engaged. It's just these stem bolts using the smaller key I've had a problem with.
