@amey said to me (either in this thread or the 'dale one) that it would work with open pro's. Pretty unlikely it will work with 23mm rims though - since that's basically asking if they will fit 28mm tyres and mudguards.
@edscoble said he just managed to fit 28's in on their own. You're quite light though right? Why not go for 23mm tyres - they still come up pretty massive on wide rims (almost look bigger than a 25mm on a regular rim).

Oh and thanks to whoever said it re: the heads up about pdw's from @CharlieTheBikemonger - everywhere else was saying February some time...

What are the best options for 650b Mudguards (I'm buying for someone as a present)? V/O?

Berthoud with mudflaps.

I could only see them in 26" and 700c

I could only see them in 26" and 700c. Checked sjs and P x, any hints about somewhere else please?

Liberté Cycles (NL) or Practical Cycles (UK) should be able to supply - including the hardware. Under no circumstances should you have a look at the actual GB website. Ever.

Dork.

They changed a hardly used but faulty Lezyne track pump without a receipt and over a year old on Tuesday so that is me done with giving them some rep.

After much battling with their terrible site, I was able to order with practical cycles.thanks very much for the tip off

Any alternatives to crud road racers to fit 700x23c tyres in tight clearances? Mine are knackered after a few weeks daily use.

Pdw's

£60 though! Is that just the price you pay for dry feet and buns?
-
• #1467
Well they'll certainly last longer than 3x pairs of cruds (which is what they cost), and they'll probably work a lot better too. At the rate you're going through them you will have paid off your investment in a month and a half.

I suppose so. I can't think of a less exciting way to spend that sort of money though, might just spank it on Stella and a bin bag to wear.

My cruds are on their third winter - probably means I didn't ride my bike enough :(
-
• #1470
cruds are fiddly to set up and their 'lightweight' construction would take a hammering with commuting
hadn't heard of portland design works before, so will consider for replacing cruds on the winter 'racer'
winter hack with good clearances has full length metal tortecs, half the price of pdw

My cruds are still going strong after 3 years of commuting, probably only about 6000 miles on that bike though. No special attention or care given just the occasional bend back into place after someone has leant their bike against them.
-
• #1472
Bet they sound like crap though. Even when I had mine set up perfectly they would still trap all sorts of flint and grit.
-

There is a certain type of silt in a certain type of mud that sticks to the inside of Cruds, rubs the tyre creating heat, this then bakes hard!
I've got in knackered from rides before to find a wheel won't spin.

Sounds like I've been unlucky with mine, the rear one snapped where you zip tie it to the frame so wobbles about a lot.

It's either this or spending more money on weird clothes to stop getting soaked by water spray from the wheels.
Question: I am running narrow PDWs with Paul neo retro cantis. Clearly these guards were designed for caliper brakes to fit under the rear brake bridge bracket. However, same bracket means I can't adjust the cantis so that the yoke sits lower and gives me a bit more purchase on the rear.
I know I should have thought this through a bit more, but does anyone have a recommendation for a more traditional rear bridge bracket that would accommodate my cantis better?
