• Split or collapsed hose as BRM said sounds plausible. When cold and stiff it's okay, warm and floppy it's a problem.

  • Once a hose collapses under vacuum/pressure the next time it collapses the tube require less pressure than the first as the pipe degrades. You can get failure or reinforcement that cause partial internal collapse but those are usually easy to tell be feel or view.
