Great thanks, good find! I'm on the same wavelength Ed. I have a MTB SLX on my other bike and it looks like it could be a cheap upgrade to get access to all the icetech stuf and finned pads.

The only thing I can't get is simply the icetech road rotor in 6 bolt configuration.

I have a front and rear set of SLX brakes. Brand new, no rotors though which I got as a birthday present, anyone wanna take them off my hands?

I've used it (I only have one... a rear) about a month. Great feel. I never tried the hylex caliper, changed it straight over, so I cannot compare.

but I guess you mean something else.

What model XTR again?

Shit, I just went from never using disc brakes to having two bikes with discs.
How the fuck do I adjust 'em? They're Magua Louise and one almost bottoms out. How do I tell if the pads are worn? If they're not, is there some kind of adjustment? Googling for manuals now..

Buy shimano.
-
• #262
Take a look at em - how much pad is left?
Sounds like they need a bleed - IIRC Louise only has reach adjustment. You could also try the weird magura procedure that unbinds the piston if they get stuck.
Welcome to hydraulics.
CRC are doing a pair of XTs for about 100 quid at the mo,
Could be worth it. -

Not buying new anything except pads, maybe.

Louise manual..
http://old.magura.com/uploads/media/downloads/WS_Louise_2011_E.pdf"New brakes and new rotors or brake pads must always be run in by
breaking"Oh my..

Seriously, buying Shimano is much easier than getting an old brakes serviced with new pads.
When you buy a new hydraulic brakeset, they already come pre-bleed, so you don't need to flaff about, just put it on.

"New brakes and new rotors or brake pads must always be run in by
breaking"Otherwise it won't work as well, and may get some brake judders.
-
• #267
I was just pointing out the 'breaking'.
-
• #268
If I wanted easy, I wouldn't have bought a used singlespeed now would I?
-
• #269
Ah, well it does need some heavy breaking in to ensure the pads wear in nicely to the rotor.

• #271

Do I need to pull the pads out to check or just remove the wheel? No idea how far they stick out.

Refusing to buy new stuff.

I'm more confused by the fact that he's bought bikes that he might have to clean, should he take them off road at this time of year.

You can eyeball them from above the caliper but it's probably worth pulling them out. Wheel off, undo the long Allen pin then push them into the centre and pull them out. The Pistons are magnetised...it's a safety feature. Just so you know.
Awesome!
Have you tried it out already? any difference in performance?
I quite like to replace the caliper with a Shimano ice tech one.
