  • Karrimor eVent trousers.

  • I'm guessing he means for when it's raining while he's cycling. I have the altura nevis ones. Only used them a few times but they have a good length and seem to be waterproof. Size up if you want to go over jeans though, I went with XL which is rare for me. I'm usually a large

  • The majority of water usually get sprayed onto you from the wheels off the tarmac, put mudguards on and you're a lots less wetter.

  • If you don't wanna spend a load of cash get down to your local surplus store and they'll probably have some goretex ones. They probably wont be the most flattering but will work.

  • Ebay always has loads of surplus stuff too.

  • Yeah its for when it's actually raining, I've got mudguards for road spray. Surplus camo goretex would match my rain jacket/make me look like a badass.

  • I'm sure I got an email from Decathlon a couple of weeks ago which advertised a pair for £15-20. No Roubaix though.

  • Muddy Fox from Sports Direct (seriously)

  • Discovered that shoes -> oversocks -> overshoes is the ticket. My usually freezing toes were toasty and happy at 6:30 this morning.

  • Defo Windstopper .. fucking annoying that I bought a castelli windstopper softshell end of last winter which is now too big for me :( Anyone keen on this in L? Or can swap for M. Its the black one.

emmuch ya want for it? I normally fit a Large in Castelli

  • @Murphys_Law

    agree they work.
    disagree they look the business.

  • Sprayway Hydrolite trousers FTW. They zip all the way! v practical. Much dryness.

  • Good shout, time to find me those bright hipster pink Defeet oversocks.

  • Yeah, the Defeet slipstreams are really decent oversocks, but with feet as cold as mine (and summer shoes) you really need something more for total protection.

The only downside is that I can't adjust my shoes on the fly. Too much material.

  • Really important to be able to tighten the shoes for those intermediate commute sprint points. Think of the 0.2 seconds you lost- Sir Dave of Brailsford would not be impressed.

  • I'm not quite sure I understand the purpose of oversocks. Can someone explain?

  • I've started using them this winter as a solitary nod to high vis (I use Prendas yellow). They also keep crap off your shoes.

Sorry for the link, couldn't work out why pic wasn't showing.

  • My feet change volume a surprising amount during a ride, even a short one. It's a good idea to start your ride with your shoes slightly loose and tighten them when you warm up/settle in. It's not a performance thing, just a comfort one.

@Hovis Oversocks keep a decent amount of wind out, keep road spray off your feet and give you an extra layer of warmth for spring and autumn riding. They're really useful!

  • Hmm, so they are just a longer version but harder to put on version of a toe warmer?

  • Now there's something I've never seen the point in. Why just the toe?

  • No. They keep your shoes clean and are usually a visible colour.

  • Because that's where the venting is, and where you get cold.

  • Toe warmers under oversocks is good too, but I'm not sure you guys are ready for that.

  • Duck tape under toe warmers.
