I'm guessing he means for when it's raining while he's cycling. I have the altura nevis ones. Only used them a few times but they have a good length and seem to be waterproof. Size up if you want to go over jeans though, I went with XL which is rare for me. I'm usually a large

The majority of water usually get sprayed onto you from the wheels off the tarmac, put mudguards on and you're a lots less wetter.

If you don't wanna spend a load of cash get down to your local surplus store and they'll probably have some goretex ones. They probably wont be the most flattering but will work.

Ebay always has loads of surplus stuff too.

Yeah its for when it's actually raining, I've got mudguards for road spray. Surplus camo goretex would match my rain jacket/make me look like a badass.

I'm sure I got an email from Decathlon a couple of weeks ago which advertised a pair for £15-20. No Roubaix though.

Discovered that shoes -> oversocks -> overshoes is the ticket. My usually freezing toes were toasty and happy at 6:30 this morning.

Good shout, time to find me those bright hipster pink Defeet oversocks.
-
• #189
Yeah, the Defeet slipstreams are really decent oversocks, but with feet as cold as mine (and summer shoes) you really need something more for total protection.
The only downside is that I can't adjust my shoes on the fly. Too much material.

Really important to be able to tighten the shoes for those intermediate commute sprint points. Think of the 0.2 seconds you lost- Sir Dave of Brailsford would not be impressed.

I'm not quite sure I understand the purpose of oversocks. Can someone explain?
-
• #192
I've started using them this winter as a solitary nod to high vis (I use Prendas yellow). They also keep crap off your shoes.

My feet change volume a surprising amount during a ride, even a short one. It's a good idea to start your ride with your shoes slightly loose and tighten them when you warm up/settle in. It's not a performance thing, just a comfort one.
@Hovis Oversocks keep a decent amount of wind out, keep road spray off your feet and give you an extra layer of warmth for spring and autumn riding. They're really useful!

• #195
Hmm, so they are just a longer version but harder to put on version of a toe warmer?
-
• #196
Now there's something I've never seen the point in. Why just the toe?
-
• #197
No. They keep your shoes clean and are usually a visible colour.
-
• #198
Because that's where the venting is, and where you get cold.
-
• #199
Toe warmers under oversocks is good too, but I'm not sure you guys are ready for that.

Duck tape under toe warmers.
