If you ride a road bike chances are its 172.5 crank. I rhink this would translate the best for first fixed. Tis what I run at least. (size 9)

I have a white one, but goddamn did I drool when I saw that charcoal one, thanks to the press release I was able to get a little money off my frame though. They do ride beautifully, but unfortunately I am unable to lock it up anywhere on campus due to the perpetual fear of it being nicked, it really does stick out from ordinary bikes! Be sure to post it here when you build it.

I rode BMX throughout the mid-late 90s, and have barely ridden since. Although confident I can still stay upright, I'm coming to it fairly fresh.
I had 180s on my BMX, but didn't use the saddle beyond something to clamp my knees around.
Im preparing to adapt to a new discipline; just want to make sure I do so with as little sliding out as possible.

Will do. The user content on this forum has been a great help in doing my best to avoid those first-build fails.

165s are pretty common in BMX nowadays

I changed from 165 to 172.5. Peeps say it makes no differenece but I disagree. If I used to 180 I wouldnt drop to 165.

Is that on a parallax?
I've still not had the response I'd secretly hoped for, that being a confident testimony - perhaps with proof, that on the parallax the difference between a 165 and a 172.5 Is academic.
I have no big issue adapting, I'm sure the ride will differ from my S&M Holmes in plenty of ways other than just cranks.

it's one of those thing that's in your head, just concentrate on riding and you'll be fine.
-
• #2435
Ah Buttercup!? If it was in the head we would all be using the same size non?
Not Parallax, OG Mash. All my bieks are 172.5 :o)

There's also a time where people think 23mm is the fastest, the oval chainring have a massive performance gain, and disc brakes were not better.

No idea what jive you talkin... >>>>>>>>>>>>

With clipless though I see... I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet, I'd imagine clipless (and accompanying shoes) give you a few degrees on both sides.

Yes

Just to draw a line... MashSF say with no uncertainty that it's 165mm all the way on anything below the 55cm parallax, but that 170mm do fine on a 55cm+

I have 172.5 on my bolt (XL), and have never struck a pedal. The BB is considerably higher than my road bike.

• #2442
Cleat position, shoe size and type is a much bigger factor.

I don't strike fo shit. Nah ah. Speedbumps. Corners. Nutting

Forget my post - thought we were filing on toe-overlap issues.

• #2445
Toe-overlap is only an issue if you go slow.

I do have a soft spot for NJS-style specimens; but since seeing the parallax, have found it hard to not want one.
Every pic makes me want to jump on one and rag it.
