  • I want this 24mm STM.

Did anybody on here buy it yet?
Is it as good (sharp, quick focussing / working smoothly) as the 40mm STM ??

Seriously debating whether to go for a Nikon DSLR again next year, though I'd pray they finally start making good pancakes as well...

  • I almost bought one last night. It has pretty much the same field of view (38mm equiv) as the 40 so is essentially the equivalent, hence the size. Its meant to be slightly sharper than the 40 too, if that's even possible.

Sorry, but you lost me there.
24mm on crop sensor sees what a 28mm would see on full frame,
40mm on crop would see what a 64mm would see on full frame, right?

Since I have a crop sensor at the moment I try to make something with this 64mm focal lenght the 40 gives me.
It's weird. In a nutshell: you're "too close" a lot of times, and in the city often have not enough space to move away from the subject.
On the other hand it's not very cool for portraits. Head to feet is ok, but torso or especially just head is not good, you're way too close for a model to feel comfortable and noses begin to look big already.
So yea, I love it, but it's weird. After walking around with it for weeks I realized it's not a good always-on-walk-around-lens.
So the 24mm will hopefully fill this gap. Maybe it's a tad too wide, haha.
