My Forerunner 405 used to jump above 200bpm now and then. I think it easily got confused by other signals. London buses used to send it up towards 250bpm and there must be some signal broadcast near the bus turnaround point on Danebury Avenue in Roehampton as it jumped up to 240bpm going past there nearly every time even if there were no buses at all.
Current Forerunner 110 hasn't had any problems (same old HR strap). No problems with my Edge 705 either.
