  • Melancholia 1&2 EDIT >>> nymphomaniac 1&2

IMHO 1 is better, more humour and a playful intertwine between the two main characters and a scene that struck a chord with me.
In 2 this is lacking, and it has more of a tendency to attempt to shock for shocking's sake.

The acting is impeccable throughout and it's still a cut above most films, if you only want to invest 2 hours pick 1.
If you want to watch a "depression" cycle movie from Van Trier Melancholia (with an excellent ending) and Antichrist (again excellent more on the horror front) are imho very good.

Melancholia is perhaps a bit of an"artistic" way to explore the topic of depression however the acting is very convincing and heartfelt (cough cliche) and the main depressed character near the end finds strength the others don't seem to be able to find, despite her condition.

  • Nymphomaniac

  • I thought they were both amazing (nymph 1&2).

It was a long time ago I watched his Dancer in the Dark but I remember it totally blew me away.

I need to check out Melancholia I guess.
