Has anyone else played Demon's Souls and Dark Souls? I can't get over the feeling that Dark Souls is essentially just a lazy re-skin of Demon's. Half the monsters utilise the same models/attack animations, a lot of the bosses are pretty similar, and some of the set pieces are re-used. The game environment was changed a lot in Dark Souls, to be essentially one continuous world, but otherwise I'm not sure what it really adds?
Dark Souls It adds loads. (DS2 is hub based like Demon Souls, but not as well realised, and because of this is...meh!)
The continuous world is a major factor since you can see places from afar and get to them eventually in a coherent manner. The difficulty/learning curve is spot-on and experience of Demon Souls does help with this superficially tough game (tough -until you die enough to learn the attack patterns)
Dark Souls locations and colour pallet are amazing, so atmospheric and varied. The online experience especially the cooperative option is (crucial and) amazing.
I love Dark Souls and I still play it experimenting with different characters and leveling up paths. It is deep, dark, lonely, sad. It is the only game I know that explores of existential angst.
