Weight / Fat loss

  • I always get some whey powder down as soon after training of any sort as possible, then a decent carby meal as soon after that. So, yeh, I guess so. I think I'm always running a deficit though.

I think this Friday think is partly weekend relaxation / greed too! I normally have a pretty good and controlled diet (not monastic, but quite considered with regards to what i eat), and I think on Friday I end up just getting bored and wanting slightly more junky stuff.

  • Rest up. Don't overdo it.

Indeed, that was kind of a maximal/hard week which might only occur once a month (in a periodisation training stylee). Today was a quiet Friday as the in-laws are staying. Just half an hour swim (forgot my goggles and eyes started to sting) and had already sacked off the idea of cycling. No run today as my legs are still aching from 7.5k Wednesday, 7.5k yesterday and the hour of 5-a-side last night.

Still, runs go to 8km as of next week. Can't wait for 10km (another 4 weeks away) as I can switch to a nice big loop involving Richmond Park. Current run to/on Putney Heath/Wimbledon Common is ok but increasing the distance means just extending an out-and-back section. Looking forward to a change.

  • this is pretty much what it's all about - diets are dumb and only lead to putting weight back on post-diet. I've put on and lost weight so much in my life that I decided three years ago enough was enough. Instead of dieting or losing weight with a trick I decided I would just try and develop better habits and let the amount of exercise I do dictate how much weight I lose.

Heh, understand that too well. A lot of strength training folk are into "cheat days", where they eat what the hell they like one day a week and rely on their regular routine and regimen to keep it under control. Some people say it actually helps weight loss because it stops your metabolism from adapting to your reduced intake and effectively becoming more efficient. I think that may be an entirely unscientific excuse but it beats going crazy from boredom and deprivation.

  • Total Bro-science but i like it, so i am adopting

  • @itsbruce @Kompute Bro-science is the best kind of science. It is the brotherhood that makes it cool.

  • Is it? Consume less, weigh less.

I'm eating just as much, just eating different things... Rarely eat red meat, no gluten or dairy, lots of fish, chicken or turkey once a week, lots and lots of fresh vegetables... I don't eat much fruit... The big thing is the booze, I've cut that down massively...

Down to 82kg but still feel a bit tubby, need to get back on a bike... Now that I've stopped playing polo I barely ride at all...

  • But you're not. You cut out booze - what did you replace it with? Nothing. That's how you lose weight, by consuming less of something or all things. Simples.
I put a lot of the weight I lost this year back on before and during the US trip. Dropped a couple off again now I'm back here but I'm not riding on weekends for a while and drinking lots more instead. Just decided to fire up MFP again today so we'll see how long that lasts.

  • I've replaced the booze with gargantuan amounts of sugar free orange and mango cordial... I've never felt more hydrated...

  • "I've never felt more hydrated..." gushed TS.

    Literally.

  • The calories that were in the beer have not been replaced because you're drinking diet cordial.

  • Shame I've been sick pretty much the whole time since I started on this...

My brain and body are clearly in massive conflict...

  • I'm not arguing with you, you knob... ;p

  • Yes you are.

  • It's rejecting your healthy choices. I know what that's like.

  • gargantuan amounts of sugar free orange and mango cordial...

    "Contains a source of phenylalanine."

I've been sick pretty much the whole time since I started on this...

  • Phenylalanine is found naturally in the breast milk of mammals.

    No wonder he's ill.

  • But how did they find it there, though.

How did they find it there?

  • I don't know if Princess is being serious or not... Meh...

  • Me? Srs? Nevah.

  • With such a radical change in diet, changes in overall wellbeing and to different aspects of wellbeing don't fall outside of the realms of likelihood.

It would be a waste of time to try and pin it down to one thing in particular though - even if that's the schtick peddled so much- as it's a hugely complex system, with a huge amount of ill-defined variables.

You may be sensitive to artificial sweeteners, you may not. You may on one day, and not on another.

    Orange and Mango, tho? >>>>>>>>>>>

Orange & pineapple is were it's at.
