I am actually a bit miffed about this, we weren't consulted.
I hate to say it, but ditto, except I do mind being a mod. I was going to reply to ed's suggestion with a general flavour of "ugh, no" but figured I'd leave it until my lunchbreak because it'd mean another argument / case-stating effort which is tiring, man. So tiring. I don't really want to be an enforcer of Other People's Opinions, especially when I like to be quite upfront about My Opinions, and this compromises my ability to do that. To be able to use any of those malign powers, I'd need to pipe down about what I think as a member of the community. I can't do both simultaneously, so I'd need to either be quiet and hope other people take up the Mantle Of Having Opinions so I can act on them, or Have Public Opinions That Won't Be Acted On because of the baggage that comes with having powers to enforce.

That's basically the core requirement of getting to be a mod, that you really don't want to.
I've never granted mod powers to those who ask for it, but I do grant them when someone appears to understand the role, is reasonable and intelligent, reacts calmly but still holds their own strong opinions, etc.
If you object, tell me and I'll remove it. But I do agree with Ed that you both make very good candidates given that you are in that forum a lot, you care about creating a good environment, etc.
I wouldn't try and ban all males as per the earlier suggestion. It leads to a problem you cannot solve: How do you know the gender of a user on the internet? No chance for you to solve that, people lie.
Besides, the Ladies room was never created as an exclusionary place, merely a safehaven/sanctuary away from bollocks (literally) elsewhere on the site. I'm happy for that to be enforced, but I'd remove your mod power if you tried to change how it exists in general.
I am actually a bit miffed about this, we weren't consulted. I don't mind being a mod; I do mind Ed suggesting that Boffers and I would like to do it and it being actioned without us being asked. Way to go, empowering the ladies!!
