  • You did it right and all the wrong ways I gather.

  • I think Amey did it every single way possible in 12 months.. And then settled on the most expensive way.

  • Is this a trick question?

  • Yes.

'cus you could buy that lot new for less, or choose the parts you really want.

  • Snobbery...

  • Trudat.

I thought I saw Ultegra Di2 which would have been madness.

  • I think Direct Mount brakes are the future.

But done like this fuji. Using the frame or fork as the caliper back plate just makes sense. Looks cleaner as the caliper sits loads closer, and is apparantly aero. All while still being at least as good as traditional style calipers.

The mini vee thingies on the giant propel, and others, need to be very carefully set up. Or they simply dont stop you.

My New frame has a BB mounted, Direct Mount caliper, and a standard front caliper. Which makes buying a brakeset/groupset a PITA. But meh. So long it stops me.

  • even better:

I found DM brakes to have more power than standard caliper; they are light; aero etc. whats not to like?

  • Are DM brakes same as standard brakes then. Does the frame change to accommodate?

    #luddite

  • Have you finally found a bike to race in?

  • They bolt onto the frame via the two pivot Points. As opposed to these being attached to a base plate, and the base plate being attached to the frame/fork via a single bolt. So you need two threaded holes in Your frame/fork.

  • Like canti studs but higher up?

  • Threaded holes rather than studs.

  • DM brakes are hardly more aero whilst there's still a great big cable dangling in the wind.

  • I guess they're more rigid (for better braking) and perhaps allow for lighter brakes and forks.

  • The claim is that moving them closer to the fork is better. But the frontal area/shape, With cable, is pretty much exactly the same.

So using my 'smaller or more pointy = moar aeros' theology. Iagree.

Still a neater solution for a road bike, and easier to hide a'la Fuji, I Guess.

I think thats why my AR will have a standard single bolt front. Still find it messy, mixing the two standards, though.

  • Mix of DM and normal mount on one frame set? One of the stupidest things I've heard of - you might as well set fire to your money.

It seems utterly pointless spending £££ chasing the tiny tiny gains you get from DM now when disc brakes will be the standard thing in a couple of years. Just another way for the bike industry to mug the consumer off with transitional kit which promises much more than it will deliver.

  • Tell that to hoops

  • You need some new material.

Rob's bike is a one off- he had it made exactly the way he wanted and it was pretty much a "money, no object" build.

  • I found DM brakes to have more power than standard caliper; they are light; aero etc. whats not to like?

You didn't find that while the rear one wasn't working out in Kent, and you can't adjust it as it's under the BB

  • Same things doe; 2 diff brake standards and luddite rim brakes .. #LeaveBritneyAlone etc.

Its funny how its assumed that discs are the near future.

IF calipers have any future DM brakes are the right step towards it.

  • Yeah bontrager ones are shite; I went DA9010 and they are awesome.

  • still under the BB though

  • Yeah thats a bit of a pain; thats why I like Fuji/Canyon's approach better.

The DM and non DM version of DA calipers doesent look too different (non under BB edition) tbh ..

  • Give it up Henry. We're wasting our time. He'll have a completely different opinion (and bike probably) in 15 mins.
