  • I must have poor circulation, I'm riding with those craft lobster mitts and merino liners and still have cold hands. Even tried with defeet durex gloves instead of the merino. Anything less than 7 degrees just gets me.

  • Thanks for the replies!
@miro_o I can fit a thin silk liner but nothing thicker without my fingers going numb from lack of blood rather than the cold.
@andy_k I think that's probably the key - massive gloves to give my hands space to move/space for moar gloves.
    @TW You're a lobster.
@Hovis I am the same, I feel like there's nothing that will keep my hands warm enough when riding :(

  • My hands still weren't too cold today or last night in just the defeet merino jobbies, don't think they'd do another couple of degree drop though.

  • Yeah, the mitts I was using have room for icebreaker liners and defeet dura gloves and there's still space. Downside is, it's a pretty terrible when you have to do anything (doors, locks, scratching your nose etc.)

  • Seem to have found some pogies in the uk. £47 delivered.

    hmmm

  • When I was touring I learnt to unlock my phone with my nose as the thought of trying to peel soggy neoprene back onto my shrivelled (and smelly) hands was too grim.

  • defeet merino
    or
    defeet dura + sealskin merino

  • You must have the circulation of an 80 year old. That combo did down to 1 degree last year comfortably.

  • Or, I have the body fat composition of a pro and ride extremely fast.

    maybe.

  • defeet dura + sealskin merino

^ that's not going to work very well. The Defeets aren't really thin enough and have grip all over the palm.

  • Best gloves I've used are Carhart (nylon) wool+Thinsulate.

In no way water resistant, but they laugh at the cold.

I wore them yesterday (2.6 degrees outside when I left the house) and my hands were absolutely fine.

  • Yesterday I wore some light Windstopper gloves for 3.5hrs in 1-2° like a real man. And think I've given myself arthritis.

  • Bollocks.
I wear that combo. It works.

  • Over three years ago I posted in this very thread to say I was riding in £5.95 Aldi ski gloves.

Since then I must have spent > £250 on cycling gloves.

Now the temperature has dropped again and from all the gloves I've bought, I'm back commuting in my Aldi gloves.

  • Found a place selling the 45NRTH Sturmfists, but they're £70 and £90, plus postage from Holland. Given ^^ I can't help but think it'd be pissing money away I could do with hanging on to.

  • Anyone found any uk website selling the defeet merino in medium but not in pink?

  • ^^^ Hestra do heated gloves too, for those with seriously bad circulation...

    But £300????

  • Bollocks.

Fuck off. You can wear mine on your chin.

  • at which temperature would you(each of you individually) consider lobsters?

asking because to me lobsters are the ultimate winter gloves which I don't even own. so would like to know at which temperature each of you thinks the situation is dire enough for lobsters?

  • sub-zero, personally.

  • in the UK? never

  • It'll be different for everyone. I have terrible circulation so I wear gloves in autumn that other people wouldn't wear even in winter. My hands and feet are pretty much always cold, even if the rest of me is warm. There’s nothing I can do about it and the pain of freezing cold hands is horrible so I don’t care if you all think I'm a wuss for wanting to wear lobsters in November.

  • I use cats.

    Tauntaun style.

  • Currently using DeFeet cunningly slipped inside some mitts for extra warmth and grip
