  • Last night feeling a bit stuck in as it was pissing down I sort of wanted a turbo so I could "ride" while watching a movie in the warm.

Does anyone have experiences with the bargain basement £40 type things? Are they mega awful?

If you are spending more how much more is the next decent step up? Have seen rollers for £100ish but you have to balance more and watch films less with that.

    Just looking for ideas atm.

  • I purchased this here from either wiggle or CRC 2 years ago in a January sale for £70 free post.
The roller was quite rough at first, I've always used old tyres so I didnt really care about it eating the rubber. 5 levels of resistance with "real life on a flat" sitting between level 2 and 3 at about 25mph.
Stability wise, its fine sitting down, but you dont want to do out of saddle efforts.
Noise - would be annoying to another person in the room, but otherwise fine.
2 years on, the roller where the tyre sits has worn smooth (gets about 4 hours use a week between late autumn and spring) so the wheel slips with hard acceleration, just annoying when doing intervals, otherwise it functions as new.
Weakest link - the plastic ring used to lock the screw mechanism the holds the axle. When I first got it I thought it was going to break within a couple of months. I've been careful with it and its lasted.
Just about tightens enough for narrow SS hubs... might be an issue if you have shallow nuts. grips the road bike much better than fixed.
Dont forget a riser of some kind, you neck will be grateful.
