I have yet another super galaxy for the thread, just back from a muddy 60km around the back lanes of north Somerset:
We could probably do with offset top tubes given the saddle height difference. I don't mind the saddle-bar drop though; it's about the same as my other bikes.
With graduation looming and the summer being my last extended period of freedom for a long, long time (hopefully, kind of). My thoughts have come to cramming in as much touring as possible and so a fortnight of tandeming around Europe is on the cards. (The stoker has more constraints on holiday, being a medic. Plus anything longer would be a bit ambitious for our first tour anyway.)
Two features that are unfortunately missing from this Dawes are the 3rd bottle cage bolt holes (on the diagonal tube) and front rack eyelets on the fork blades. It seems like @6pt and @ough have both of these, and @richjames has the bottle cage. It looks like you've got a clamp on arrangement for the front rack? I suspect I'll do the same, probably using these:
This would allow me to use a front rack for some light touring on my audax-ish road bike as well, so not all bad. Moving on from those issues, the previous owner seems to have done a lot of modernising (apologies for 'other drive side' photo) but not much riding, which is nice for us. I'm not sure how I'll get on with flat bars for longer rides but they're useful for the local muddy and pothole riddled cycle paths and lanes. I think some bar end extensions might be a good investment to give some more hand position options for touring.
Absolutely, spending a lot of time reading your blogs at the moment! They're really useful. We're thinking about doing a similar route to frain, though we're yet to decide what sort of mileage would be most enjoyable.
