I get where you're coming from and an anal operator might try to peg you on obscure T&Cs but you should still be safe.
It sounds like @Lw. has a paper ticket that won't require tapping in like an Oyster card.Penalty fares are always civil offences and not criminal. They could write you out a form demanding payment, but you could refuse if you have good grounds. The rail company would have to get a court to demand you pay which they wouldn't cause it wouldn't be worth the effort to lose.
Unless you're deliberately avoiding paying or providing incorrect personal details to the revenue collector, it's not a criminal offence because you have a valid ticket.

Quick call, not bad.

The thing is though, if you jump it and get seen they'll stop you every time, delaying your journey by much longer each day.
-
• #64755
But @TW is right, you do have to provide details if asked for a penalty.
-
• #64756
Also this.

Penalty fares are always civil offences and not criminal.
Refusing to do so can result in the British Transport Police involvement as the misogynist will tell you.
-
• #64758
Yup. The inspector/revenue officer will issue a (civil) penalty fare.
BTP should only get involved if you refuse to provide personal details or provide false personal details for it because that is a criminal offence.(7)Regulations may provide that where information is required to be furnished pursuant to the regulations—
(a)a refusal to furnish any such information, or
(b)the furnishing of information which is false in a material particular,
shall, in prescribed circumstances, be an offence punishable on summary conviction by a fine not exceeding level 2 on the standard scale.
(8)Apart from subsection (7) above, nothing in this section creates, or authorises the creation of, any offence.

Ah, I see. No way between platforms I take it (some stations have overhead walkways or tunnels to get between platforms).
Is it any easier to get through the barrier by speaking to the person at the gate to get on to the platform where your bike is (the queues may be shorter on that side), i.e.
Morning:-
Get off train and use ticket to get through barrier.
Ask person to get onto platform where bikes are (hopefully shorter queues this side).
Use ticket to get back through barrier.Evening:
Ask person to get through barrier with bike.
Lock bike up, use ticket (first time) to get back out.
Use ticket (second time) to get onto right platform for departing train. -

This all sounds like a right ball-ache.
y u no brompton?

You should get a Platform Ticket to retrieve your bike.
If you're using officially designated bike storage facilities, you could ask the station manager what you should do. This way if any Revenue Protection Inspectors block you, you can legitimately refer them to the manager.

They've never had any powers.
Except since 1889...
Babow.

Yeah, but it's Tommy. Pointing out why and how Tommy is wrong makes shooting fish in a barrel look hard.

Do I get a prize?

Jokez. Babow is Tommy's favourite "I'm right!" shout.

Is there a repair kit for the ortlieb back roller plus? I can find the kits for the standard PU material but don't seem to be able to find the one for the cordura plus panniers.

What are the options for replacing a bb on an old Raleigh? They have weird threading right?
I don't suppose anyone does hollowtech2 bb's in that threading?! :-)

• #64770
What does sheldon say? http://sheldonbrown.com/raleigh26.html
Is the width or circumference of the bb different to hollow tech requirements?

I got an m-part 1" exapnder from ribble a few months ago.
-
• #64772
No, it will mainly be used for sticking together various bits of report that are scanned in, done in Excel, done in Word, etc
-
• #64773
Is the watermarking on the PDF's or actual paper I'm not clear?

Where can I still buy a crank brothers cobalt c headset?

26TPI, rather than the usual 24TPI. I think the main option is a threadless conversion, but if you have plenty of money, making external cups in that size is pretty much the same kind of work as making the bling rings, which live tooling CNC lathes lap up.
Train stops on one platform, go through barrier.
Bike is locked on another platform so go through that platform's barrier.
Unlock bike & head off to work, get stuck behind the barrier.
Not that fussed about the mornings as I'm in no real hurry to get to work but the return journey is a bit of a rush.
@Pifko - nice; hadn't thought of that, maybe I'll just wait!
