hello,
just wanted to say how awesome the service is at Cyclelab http://cyclelab.co.uk/ i went there after work and although it was near their closing time the guy changed my BB, chain, and cranks on the spot; he also gave me some sound (non-patronising) advice. (the bike was previously totally screwed up by Holloway Cycles). Thanks Cyclelab :-)

Well, I had to post this here, as there isn't an International Bike Shops thread.
C'mon, really, what a place to go to work for the day. Each day when they're done, straight into the beach.....or even during their breaks. Those folks have landed on their feet.

Just had one if the most enjoyable bike building experiences in The Red Bike Shop in Highbury. Not only did they go far beyond the call of duty ( staying over an hour past closing time) they leant or gave me parts to fix the collection of odds and ends I brought in.
They made sure I left with a finished bike, were great company and are incredibly good value for money.
Having guys this good so close is going to make a massive difference to me... -

I am in the frozen North for the weekend, and yesterday I popped into Woodrup cycles for a quick look.
Brilliant old-school bike shop, owned and staffed by people who clearly love what they do.
They even took the time - on a Saturday - to show me round the frame building workshop, which is tiny.
I have been living in London too long, and had forgotten how positive and sociable people are outside of the M25.
Now saving up for a custom Woodrup.

Looking for 700x23c inner tube and tyres, anywhere particularly good?
-
• #332
Anywhere really so long as they don't take the piss with prices. I either order online or decathlon most times.

Sorry never heard of this. Nope.

Bicycle Workshop (Ladbroke Grove/North Kensington - W11 1HE) (Brooks specialist, and best mechanic in London?)
Hi all,
Looking for a mechanic to do a full service on my steed before the RideLondon-Surrey. Noticed the above mechanic, and 'best mechanic in London' statement which is a huge call. Anyone have any recent experience with them, and does the statement still stand 3 years on?
Cheers,

Please remind me after a week or so, as I'm in South America at the moment, and only have a mobile, not my laptop.
Maybe a mod might do it for you, but if not, just message me in just over a week, and I'll do it.

Has anyone got any experience of Archway Cycles?
My friend took her Giant Avail (small, black, covered in reflective tape, otherwise fairly standard) over two weeks ago. Goodness knows why but there we go. Since then, no word, the phone has been disconnected, mobile number disconnected, email bounce back and the shop has closed.
If anyone has any info that may help us reclaim her bike she'd be very grateful! -

Not sure if anyone has mentioned but chamberlain kentish town has closed and reopened as a giant shop. http://www.giant-camden.co.uk/en-GB/, still decent people but it is now giant specific.

Just picked up a new wheelset (archetype/105/sapim race @ £249) from Sam Taylor Cycles at their temporary Leytonstone address.
They're a new business, hence why I'd never heard of them before.
Super friendly, well priced and well worth the trip up from Crystal Palace.

I don't normally post things on here but I just had a very experience at a shop. I went to cycle studio http://thecyclestudio.co.uk in Stratford Upon Avon. It is a great shop. Had a wheel that needed truing. Mechanic did it there and then, and then saw that the inner/tyre had been put on with levers (whoops), refit the tube, then proceeded to sort out the brake pad height and sort the gears and cables, whilst explaining to me how to do it! All for £15. I could see that it was all so easy for him, and I was very impressed that he didn't treat me like an idiot, and he let me watch. Also the shop is very nice. Lots of nice gear and bikes. Worth checking out.

Awesomeness, this is one of the most useful lists you've made. Cheers

Ashe, I've made a new Hackney page (plus a lovely map) for our new web-site:
It would be great if you could update the link.
There are still one or two places missing from it (ones I haven't been able to get down to).
Of the places listed under 'East' in the OP, Kiwi Cycles, Bike Yard East, and The Hub have ceased trading. 14 Bike Co. has a different web-site and no longer a street-facing shop: http://14bikeco.com/
Racer Rosa has moved to Much Hadham and is now called Artisan Cycles.

Oh, and despite some recent changes there are around 30 bike shops/workshops in Hackney. Thanks to Angus for the info about Sam Taylor Cycles.

Am moving to Wimbledon Park area and was wondering if anyone knows any decent bike shops in the area? Also, need to get a external BB fitted to a frame, and was going to take it to my current LBS Putney Cycles. Not used them before, anyone know if they're reasonable, reliable for that sort of thing?
