Bike whisperer sell them, a must have for the old design of speed play clear, the newer ones incorporate a cover.

I bought a replacement from Velosport Putney the other day for £18.99 I think. Great things these; my older ones lasted over 2000 miles.

Anyone with experience of Speedplay Frogs?
I need to find a pair of pedals with as much/similar float as Speedplay Zeros and for 2 bolt fitting.
Been on Zeros for 2 years and love them. Just switched to the ATACs for winter riding but i can already feel my knees starting to act up a little, even though they're much better than regular SPDs in terms of float.

Do Speedplay cleats have more fore/aft range than other road systems or is just that you can get the extender baseplate thingy if you want the cleat behind the ball of the foot?
I set my Atac cleats as far back as they'll go on my mtb shoes so my experience with road shoes and SPD-SL hasn't been great.

When are the new 'aero'speedplays out?
-
• #157
They'll be single sided no? Do not want...
-
• #158
But the cleats will be a lot better. So you could still use old pedals on some bikes if you want.

keep on kovers?

My friend had them for one ride, then dumped them. He absolutely hated them. There is no clip out, you just kind of... swing your foot out and it isn't connected any more? Very disconcerting and not very useful apparently.

Not that durable.
The new pedals are a lot better solution if they're durable.
-
• #162
Thanks. They're the only pedals i know of that dont center your feet when peddlin though. With most other pedals my knees/feet are forced to an angle which make them ache. Will see if i can find some on the bay to try out.

The crank bros. premium (float) cleats are similar to the effect you describe.

There are new speedplay MTB pedals, syzr. Get them when they're out. They're like zeros.
-
• #165
0° float though. Isn't that the opposite? Speedplay Zero has lots of float.
Thanks Skinny. Will have a look at those.

Six degrees apparently for the premium cleats, but feels like 20 as there's no noticeable ramp in tension until you reach the release point. Well, that's what it's like on my Dominators.

Keep on covers are good, but do wear quickly. I reckon they're worth the money that they save me in worn out cleats though.
I have tried using the cafe stop covers, which are more durable, but inevitably I forget them, lose one or just get fed up of having to put muddy plastic in my jersey pockets so I stop bothering with them and just clop around on my cleats... and then end up having to dremel a slot into the screw heads to get them off a month later. -

Keep on are good. I wouldn't use speedplay without them.
But they're a non durable solution to a design flaw. Hopefully a flaw that is fixed with these new cleats.
Anyone know when they're out?

I've yet to wear out a keep-on cover. Maybe I'm not riding my road bike enough...
...actually I'm definitely not riding my road bike enough. Bah.
-
• #170
I've had mine about 6 months - they are worn, but not worn through. I reckon they'll probably do a year.

Anyone got any spare Speedplay pedals they want to shift?
-

Ancient thread dredge but dan for 3 months ago: it's easy to run straps on speedplay ( I do for starts)- you just need to replace the "bottom" bowtie with a steel loop for the strap- i.e. make themn into single sided pedals with a strap loop underneath- not vastly harder than all other track strap "hacks"
I also suspect that Hippy's one midfoot shoe eats "C"springs because I didn't get the cleat 100% flat on those shoes. In my defence, it's not an easy job to flatten a bit of the shoe that the shoe manufacturer never intended to be flat for a cleat. I will fix it. And if I am right about that particular shoe, wear a hair shirt for a week.
