Unless Lewis does it in a manner that means getting excluded from the championship, then yes. Not that I imagine he would do it on purpose, but it would be another advantage for him if he and Rosberg were to start going wheel to wheel.
-
• #4503
Yeah, that's where I was coming from- if both of them are wheel to wheel into a corner then Rosberg has everything to lose.
-
• #4504
Lewis already has the upper hand on him in terms of wheel to wheel action as it is, his only hope is to do what Massa managed to do so many times at Ferrari and put it on pole then just run away with it. Not so hot when it comes to actual racing!

part of me would like to see them take each other out on the first corner, to make a mockery of the x2 points.

why does lauda always smile more when nico wins
i'll have a £5'er on lewis's car to come to a halt during the race

Think it's hard to infer he's biased towards Rosberg following the coming together at Spa and his opinion of Rosberg's actions.
-
• #4508
I really don't see Lauder as being biased either way. Rainier Wolfcastle on the other hand....
Anyway, it will be a bloody travesty if Hamilton doesn't win the title this weekend. Here's hoping for a clean and boring Mercedes 1-2

Would be very 'Suzaka 1990'.

I don't really get the whole Hamilton won twice as many races thing. Yes, he did, and I think most people will agree he is the quicker driver.
But that's not what the championship is. It's about the most points over the season, and sometimes it rewards slow and steady, rather than quick and unreliable. Sometimes being too quick can damage your car.
If it was purely about wins, then people would drive differently, as 2nd would be meaningless, except for tie breaking.

But saying that, for me Hamilton is the true talent, he has that extra bit only a few drivers have had. Rosberg is another Button, Coulthard (yeah, I know he didn't win, but could have), Hill, Villeneuve, Mansell, Räikkönen. Good enough to win in the right car. But not a superstar.
-
• #4514
Agree with all of that ^
Hamilton has made a lot of big errors this season whereas Rosberg has been much more consistent. The same reason Alonso has been in contention in the past few years, with little or no wins.
-
• #4515
consistency should be everything, but i would suggest that these two have had the most consistent 2 car season ever. when your teammate is guaranteed to finish first or second in every race, twice as many wins should be enough.
-
• #4516
Hamiltion may have made more errors because he was driving less conservatively.
Rosberg has a few notable ones this season, such as the unfortunate 'mistake' in qualifying at Monaco which very likely denied Hamilton pole. Also forgot to brake for the first chicane twice while leading the Italian GP when under pressure from Hamilton in second.
I was wondering the other day how many times they'd overtaken each other on track this season. Only occasion other than Italy I could remember off the top of my head was Hamilton passing Rosberg at the US GP a few weeks ago.

Consistency is one thing, and mechanical reliability is another.
If Lewis had the same reliability that Nico has been lucky enough to have, the points would look rather different at this stage.
And the gremlins that bothered Hamilton's car, were not normally from harder driving.

I'd put Mansell and Raikkonen into the "extra bit" category.

I don't know about this. I had gotten the feeling that Lauda was a bit of a Lewis fanboy, from some of his remarks, and also that he appears to like seeing top notch racers. I don't think Nico is considered the same quality of racer that Lewis, Alonso and Ricciardo are.
As for Mansel, I think for a heavier bloke, he was pretty spectacular.

Pretty much agree with that, not so sure about the Mansell bit. As that was back in a time where physical strength was required more than stamina so being a bit bigger wasn't such a big issue. I imagine a lot of today's drivers would struggle to race one of those cars for up to two hours due to the brute strength required.

From where I'm sat, the Ferrari looks like a fuckin' dog to drive.
I'm amazed 'Nando has got it this far.

Not at all. Glad a forumenger is there to see it live. I'm going to have to try to find a place to watch it here in Barranquilla, Colombia, without being mugged, or worse.
Still, it's definitely squeaky-bum time.
If Lewis and Rosberg crash into one another, both retiring, then presumably Lewis wins the championship?
