  • My City Rain Jacket just arrived. It's nice. Wasn't pricey (over 40% off in Clearance). Shipping was... free.

  • The tail of the Race Cape has an elastic hem, and is designed to go over your stuffed pockets, the design is excellent.

What I do like about this, is that when unzipped, the don't flap that madly against the wind.

  • @Fox
Fair enough, seems a bit silly to take it personally though when it's no comment on them or their role...

It was a passing comment from me - mainly because it's an area I've worked in and find it a little hard to believe they haven't sorted out a decent rate with a carrier and/or incorporated uk postage costs into the normal price (on the main site).

Free postage is also becoming the norm on ebay and helps drive sales (not that rapha need that particularly), which is why paying 80% of the item cost as postage seems a bit off.

  • eBay is probably as far (ethos-wise) from Rapha as it's possible to be. It's where you end up when you enter a race to the bottom.

  • How's it any different to paying the sum they're charging for the cap plus shipping for the cap alone and then getting free shipping? The price to the customer is the cost of the item plus the cost of shipping. If it's too much, you don't buy it. I'm not having a go at you personally, but I can't see why shipping costs v. item costs matters. Look at the total, and if decide if you're prepared to pay it. If you are, press the button. If you're not, go elsewhere.

  • thanks. couple of caps ordered and cheeky order on the sky umbrella. also managed to save £4.50 on postage. result!

  • sky umbrella

    Next level buyer status achieved.

  • takes pressure off me ..

  • May have to order a couple of permanent markers too.

  • Nothing can take the heat off you

  • .

  • Does anyone have one of the newly re-sized Pro-Team jackets?
How is the fit compared to the old ones?

They are now the same fit as PT Jerseys (and 2012 PT Jackets), so tighter / racier cut than the 2013 version that was in the summer sale.
It you have a PT Jersey, order the same size in Jacket.

FWIW - I am between a medium and large in classic fit, but definitely large in PT.

  • ^+1...

Quite like last years pt jacket as it gives me a bit of extra room to fit another layer underneath on colder days. New pt Jersey cut is like a glove!

  • Excellent, thank you. I have one from last year in large that's a bit big so I might try a large in the new fit.

I'm a solid medium in everything else.

  • Well assuming you're not running it as a service and offsetting against the overall margin, it can be averaged out over all sales transactions and added to the original item price as a percentage rather than a fixed fee. It's what they already do with incoming shipping costs.

  • Well, further to my previous post, I have to say thr new PTJ (I already ordered it but had a size related panic) doesn't seem like as good quality as the last one.

The softshell material is thinner and instead of being embossed, the collar logo is printed.

I'm going to have a think about whether to keep it or not.

In the meantime, has amyone owned and used both and how do you think they compare?

In contrast, the transfer jacket is lovely and very well made.

  • Turns out my new Rapha jacket is the exact same colour as my Silas jacket from AW 2000. Awesome.

  • Same material?

  • No, the Rapha item is stiffer - more modern.
The colour match in real life is absolutely exact though, it freaked me out.

  • Rapha item is stiffer

    But still vertically compliant?

  • Zips like it's on rails?

  • Vertically stiff yet laterally compliant.
Whether it's stuffed jersey pockets or a beer belly & love handles, this puppy can take it whilst giving full protection.

  • So, further to my previous post regarding the old/new PTJ, it's because they are made from different material. Does anyone know the significance of this or why it would be changed? Does this mean the new material is not Polartec?

On the left is last year's PTJ, on the right is the new one. I've also checked the website and the advertised composition is still that of the old one despite the changes. (Also, I notice the new label says 'Jersey' but it's not, it is the jacket.)

Thanks in advance for any info!
