I never liked Risk much. A great game that's basically similar but with major improvements is Buck Rogers: Battle for the 25th Century. Here's the board:
4 planets and a bunch of asteroids instead of continents. Each turn, the planets and asteroids move once round their track. Since Mercury's track only has 2 spaces, Earth's 8 and so on, this means the "continents" move closer to or farther away from each other. You can be beating the hell out of one player on Earth when suddenly Mars pulls alongside, somebody launches an invasion and you get your arse handed to you.
Long out of print but worth tracking down.

In Brixton? Never heard of that but I'm away next Monday unfortunately. I wonder if they'll arrange one in the Hackney PictureHouse?

Charlie, the guy who runs the Brixton Ritzy event, says he'd love to do more events but he hasn't got the time. Something about a young child, being a father, etc etc I stopped listening.
Set up one yourself in Hackney! The Brixton one is really successful, always packs out the top room.

I've always quite liked Risk. Bit of a nightmare that it can last anywhere between 45 mins and 12 hours though...

Just emailed them and they said exactly that! Unfortunately I'm freelance and work irregular evenings, so it's hard for me to commit to hosting (or even turning up) to a regular event.
Maybe if we got enough peeps together it's possible? And share hosting? I'd be up for that.
Mind you this place is opening on the 15th http://www.draughtslondon.com/

I Kickstarted Draughts, I hope they do really well.

I have a feeling that the name 'draughts' will at least attract a sizeable forum crowd.

However you do need to play to get in. I'll be interested in how thye are going to prevent beer getting spilt on that tables. And how overpriced the beer will be.

I think you've answered your own question: the beer will be priced to cover replacing games which get spilled on.

In like a shot otherwise.

I doubt it, it would mean they would have to break a habit, after all. :)
(I hadn't heard of the game before.)
