Thanks chaps, I'll look out for lights with a pulse mode function then.

Think I'll get this even though it looks like a toy:

Seems to have proper optics that won't dazzle oncoming cars.

Spent 3hrs riding back from darkest Surrey the other weekend with many oncoming cars running mains and floods and not bothering to dip them for a lowly cyclist so as far as I'm concerned now - fuck them all. They're usually too busy looking at their partner or reaching for mobile phone to be dazzled by lights anyway.

I have 2k lumens of strobe-mode for those fuckers.

I need a Strada with the remote high beam switch.

I've been OK with two lights, one about 300 lumen, one a bit weaker. The brighter one a bit more focused and pointing a bit further ahead.

You can 't beat a big light. The bigger it is the less of your ride is slowed due to lack of seeing shit.
As @Emyr posted on the previous page - an mj-808 type light will give you a thousand lumens (?) and a decent battery pack for less than £30. You're also not locked into a proprietary battery either so you can upgrade or replace bits when needed.

Do you have a link to a replacement battery? I managed to lose mine a while ago.
-
• #3760
What I really mean is does anyone have a link to one that doesn't cost 3 times what I paid for my dodgy eBay knock off?
-
• #3761
EBay?

Sport pursuit are knocking out Lezyne Megadrives for £90 with spare battery.
Bargain. -

I've replaced by battery pack for a 6 cell pack.
Search on deal extreme.

Hmm, now I'm searching magicshine and the various clones. Wow, there's so much choice and properly nerdy specs. From the looks of it the Magicshine style lights have parts that can be easily replaced at places like Maplins so definitely an option.
Cheers for ideas!
FWIW I'm not that concerned for cars but I don't want to be a douche and blind other cyclists either but I'm guessing careful setup can solve that -

I hate my Lezyne superdrive - well I mostly hate the crappy bracket that requires several elastic bands to hold it and the light in place.
After yet another suicidal leap from handlebars today the on button has fallen out of the light, leaving the circuits exposed. I spent a good 20 minutes searching for it, but was in Dukes Meadows in Chiswick, and I think the doggers, car thieves and drug dealers who loiter round the area all began to get a bit suspicious, so I gave up.
Does anyone think I stand any chance of getting a replacement button from Lezyne / has anyone managed to do this?
Failing that, any cunning suggestions for a replacement button / bodge way of fixing it?
As much as I hate it, it cost too much for me to want to get rid of it.

I tried but they're based in America, they told me to speak to the shop I bought it from for a replacement light (2 year warranty)

Cateye Volt 300 has a longer battery life and moar Lumenz for cheaper. Mine has been pretty robust and holds its charge well, the only slightly poor thing for me is cateye's "flextight" bracket (as discussed extensively upthread).

Girlfriend's been using one of those for a year now and it's still working. Guy sat opposite me at work has the Volt 300, which has also been going strong for around the same amount of time.

awesome cheers.
I think I'm going to send the Lezyne back (again) as my previous one use to last a full week of commuting before it needed a charge so I think they've given me a duff one, but I've got a £50 Evans voucher to play with so I'm gonna get another front light for now.

Sounds like a good plan

I just splashed for that Mytinysun Folkslight 2000 lumens beast. Looking forward to some proper night riding!

^ Didn't know what my Exposure Strada was rated at. Turns out its 800 lumens. 2000 really must be a tiny sun.
Going on the Croix de Fer?

anyone know of a decent, bright USB chargable front? (for around £30)
My commute usually has an unlight bridle path through the woods.(i have a magicshine knockoff 1600lm thing that is a beast, but complete overkill for my needs ATM and has johnny foreigner charger plug)

Moon Meteor? Mine works well for commuting and unlit roads although I've not tried it off road. You can notmally find it less than £30 with a bit of searching as well.
Cheers - bigger it is.
@snottyotter - rather than blind them, i'd rather it was bright enough to vaporise them, possibly safer that way.
