  • Check out your local CO-OP as they seem to be disposing of certain taylors ground coffee 227g bags for 97p I grabbed all the ones from essex road and charlton

  • Rounded off the head of the screw for the showerscreen on my Gaggia classic. Are they made of cheese ffs? Tried to dremel a slot in there, but no luck. Any suggestions?

If you're trying to remove it then you need one of these, essentially it's a left-handed drill bit.

  • You could still the head off, and then try to remove with pliers once the shower screen is off. I have a spare grouphead block which you can have if the screw gets stuck (plus a spare new screw).

In coffee bean news, Monmouth's Costa Rican Finca Las Lajas is very tasty if you like big naturals (fnar). Lots of fruit flavour.

  • My latest Notes beans are a bit meh :/

  • This is what I was going to attempt. I bought new screws and gasket last week, but was worried about attempting this without a spare shower screen.. Might take you up on that if it all goes tits up.

If I was going to use and extractor drill bit I would have to dismantle the machine as the base stops you from getting a tool long than 15-20cm in there (probably why it rounded out in the first pace).

  • That rules out my tool.

  • /facepalm

  • The place in Denmark hill station is closer to kch and also well worth a visit.

    Wish I knew its name.

  • Cheers

  • Guys if I wanted to open a small coffee concession how would I go about that?

I'm looking to create a small café in an office building.

  • WTF Makita?!

    http://www.makita.biz/product/category/cordless/dcm500/index.html#1

500ml brewing capacity off of an entire high capacity battery.

  • Hahaha, want! Just for shits'n'giggles!

  • Yep, it fixed itself after I ignored it for three weeks.

    #winning

Ha! Mine did the same, but now it's suddenly stopped altogether. Despite my best efforts, it's not even giving me a reluctant dribble. Probably needs taking apart and soaking, by someone who knows more about such things than I do...grrrrr.

I might try ignoring it for a few days though. Better than whacking it. I knew London water was a bit shit for machines but I'm getting really fed up with how many issues I've had with the Classic #notwinning #coffeeshouldntbethishardtoappreciate :(

  • It is not hard to take apart. Does the pump make a noise still?

I like this place a lot (enough to overlook the various done-to-death hipster coffee shop tropes) and they make a decent coffee ;) I quite like Love Walk Cafe down Denmark Hill. Haven't tried the Florence (opposite Love Walk) yet.

Given its proximity to the station, I imagine Flying Coffee Bean gets really crazy busy in there during rush hours.

  • Have you tried Daily Goods on Church Street? It's worth a look if not.

Of course, and Sun Cafe, Moloko, No67....the damn place is full of coffee stops! :)

I think someone up thread was looking for places near King's though?

  • It is not hard to take apart. Does the pump make a noise still?

Sure but there's not much point taking it apart unless I can do something with the pieces :/

Yeah it makes the right noises, and the steamer works fine.

  • So a blockage/ or switch issue. Would it be easy to open up the boiler and clean it out. Maybe a new gasket set.

You can order all the parts on line and there is a guy in NW9? that does the parts.

    Edit - http://www.partsguru.com/user/Gaggia%20Classic%20gasket%20installation.jpg

This shows how to dismantle the boiler and see if there is a blockage.

Edit 2 - http://www.gaggia-parts.co.uk/, thecoffeemachinelondon.co.uk are the two people I have bought parts from.

  • Cool :) how's sun cafe? I've not been in yet.

  • It could be a blocked solenoid if it is a hard water area. The water travels through a tiny pin hold which can get blocked by bits of limescale. It is a bit of fiddly job but there are plenty of guides on how to do it.

First step would be to do what lynx said and check the group head and give a good clean.
