  • what's the best rim tape for clincher tires? I've tried all my LBS has to offer and they all have problems.

The thick rubber ones tear after a few months, the plasticky ones I used shrunk so much my inner tube ended up in the holes in the rim causing a tear. I had hard ones made out of I think fiberglass that actually punctured one of my inner tubes.

Is there a good brand with a good product available? I prefer light weight stuff but it still needs to do it's job. I never (still amazing) had a problem on the road with glass, nails etc to date. But so many flats due to rim tape problems.

  • I've used most of them without trouble, but the Schwalbe blue ones seem to be the most robust. The weight weenie option, which works well as long as your rims are compatible, is Veloplugs

  • Yeah I've had problems with the plastic stuff.

Velox fond de jante comes in several widths and works nicely. It doesn't last forever though and might need replacing before the rim is dead.
