Looking to build a non-ridiculous wheelset to subsititute for my 60mm Jets on the look. Requirements are: wide rim, not crabon and not heavy. My intention is to use these wheels for hilly/multi-day rides/taking abroad.
Should come out to be $300 before postage and import duty so with the exchange rates as cheap as they are not bad price.
My question is, the 16:8 spoke pattern. Is this a good idea in practice? I like the idea of having equal spoke tension NDS to DS, but I've never built a wheel this way.
For reference, I weigh between 68-74kg depending on the time of year.
If you aren't super confident about pattern and building, consider going 24/28 for better build tolerances and stiffer wheel for all your out-of-saddle climbing.

A 16:8 24-spoke wheel will actually be stiffer (axially, which is what matters, torsionally which hardly matters but doesn't hurt, and not radially which might actually be a benefit) than 14:14 28-spoke one.

My current thinking is:
Rims: BHS C22w Clincher - 22mm Deep - 24mm Wide - 440 grams rims
Rear Hub: UL190 UltraLight - 191 Grams - 24 Holes 16:8 - Black
Front Hub: SLF71W: SuperLight Wide - 71g - 16, 18, 20, 24h - 20 Holes
CX Ray Spokes
Sapim aluminium polyax nipples
