I'm still pleasantly surprised with Sora and have dropped any idea of replacing it.
To be fair, Sora work, it's not the crispiest shift, nor the lightest action, the only thing that bug me most about the shifter itself is the design and long throw of the upshift.
By the way, you can effectively mix and match any Shimano part from 8 to 10 speed, as they all work (same cable pull).
