On that note, I'm glad the barriers have been removed from the foot tunnel. Bloody stupid idea. I think they might even be thinking of letting people cycle through soon.

All the ones I seem to see are dicks, trying to race through and being aggressive. Takes 5 mins to push the bike.

^^This. Most people ride through Greenwich tunnel like cunts, despite it being full of children, erratic tourists etc. It's 400 metres, takes no time to walk or run pushing the bike.

There are many, many signs in the foot tunnel which say NO CYCLING, so don't fucking do it you twats.

A comment on an old post on the estimable 853 blog suggests plod were fining tunnel cyclists a few days ago - anyone know any more?

Well, it's a start. Wouldn't complain if they knocked them off their bikes and stomped on their spokes.

i dont mind cyclists cycling through it... Its only when the knob factor comes into play that irritates me.

Yesterday i saw people bombing it through a crowd of kindergarden kids. Fucking awful some people are.

Yesterday I was called idiot by a guy who interposed in my way, just trying to annoy me because I was on the bike. Obviously I wasn't speeding or riding like a cunt, just slightly faster than a pedestrian, probably 7kph max?

Tell the police that loitering in the tunnel is also against the bylaws.

Colleague at work reporting cycling will be allowed at times in the tunnel, other times not. A new lighted sign will show whether it's allowed or disallowed. Anyone heard anything about this?

Don't know about it being allowed but there certainly is a fuck off screen telling you that you can't now

I've seen the ~4 week old lit sign at the Island Garden end of the tunnel, just outside the lift. Current scrolls saying no cycling. I just assumed it was a waste of money. Maybe that'll alternate between cycling allowed and cycling not.

I was wondering what those screens were about.

The Trial Goes On

You will notice electronic signs in the tunnel asking cyclists either not to cycle or to behave considerately. This is part of a trial of a system that will allow slow cycling through the tunnel.

For now, the system is only being technically tried
We expect the trial to go live in early 2017

This is because Byelaw changes take a long time and the current byelaws do not allow cycling at all.

So Please

Use the tunnel considerately whether you are a cyclist, pedestrian or have a scooter or skate-board and please be patient for the rest of 2016.

After all, we have waited 115 years to be allowed to cycle in this foot tunnel.

This nonsense really pisses my off. The Greenwich Foot Tunnel is exactly that, a tunnel designed to be travelled through on foot.

The idea that we should expect cyclists to decide for themselves what constitutes considerate cycling is ridiculous - especially the sort of self-entitled twats who work in Canary Wharf (huge generalisation, sorry).

It's a bit like saying we should allow drivers to decide whether or not they can run a red light, depending on if they think it is OK to do so or not.

If I had the time, I would campaign strongly against this ridiculous scheme.

But hey I say ban cycling in the tunnel, people cannot judge consideration.

Cyclist do not do consideration as is shown currently, so why should they be allowed at all?
