Just sold my Landy & got £2k burning a hole in my pocket - although budget could go to £2.5k

need something a) the missus will drive b) reasonably practical c) 5 seats d) slightly entertaining e) not stellar mileage

Current thought is a MkIV Golf GTi or V5

Any other suggestions?

Uses to have a Mondeo ST220 - very nice but I don't need another one

The beemer is interesting

I can't really see the missus doing the school run in a 4 litre jag ;)
