  • gear isn't really magic enough yet, the good combos are 53:16 and 45:16, which just so happen to correspond to decent TT and town gears

  • Do you know which headset is that? I've one as well but never understood what's the model... gran sport?

  • Yes, it's gran sport. the difference is in the upper adjusting nut (below the locknut) not being hexagonal

I'll probably end up using the Record headset I have to be honest looks like this

  • Yep, the second you have would match the c record cranks better. Not sure if you are planning for a correct period built, but in this case would be ideal.

  • @Gaston_Fr With the Wolbers, it lost the blingbling touch. What's the Giant's crankset ?

  • ...guess what? ;)

  • agreed... shame it's the high stack road one...

  • not 100% period or C-Record yet, but trying to accumulate a few c record bits... still looking to trade my NOS 32h Omega Vs for some 36s or similar... I have a lead on some hubs etc, just wanna shift some other bits before spending any money

  • First test ride this afternoon, just need a longer seatpost (black maybe ?) but I'm quite happy.

Obviously it isn't light, but comfort and everything works perfectly.

  • Just finished making some upgrades to my girl friends kingpin, which was her grandmothers. Really happy with how it turned out. Upgraded to some cheap alloy wheels with a coaster brake (£45) and some kojaks. Shaved a good bit of weight and runs a lot smoother now. Only down side is they are 406 vs the 440 wheels that were on there. 451 would have been better obviously but didn't have the money to get a custom set built. It's so much fun to ride now, don't want to give it back.

  • Air horn ftw

  • 406s will give you such a wide range of options that the sting of the smaller size will soon fade. Hell, you can get Big Apples!
I have 451s on my Sillgey, pretty limited selection - currently running Maxxis DTH.

  • I'd say don't go crazy looking for a c record pista headset, I'm not sure why but most of track bikes built originally with c record pista had an older headset fitted.
They were using either SR or GS, probably because of the stack height and because Campagnolo didn't produce many c record pista hs. Always been a mystery to me.

I have a friend that he has a bunch of 32 and 36h Omega V rims still wrapped, not sure if he would like to swap a set for another but next time I'll meet him I'll ask him ;)

  • yep, I'll use my road one, stack height won't matter as the 2A stem is low anyway

steerer won't need any cutting that way either, which is a good thing... don't wanna mess with the resale value

  • finally got my 'winter' training fixed built now summer's here. It's a sonic cycles track frame with a nice high BB.

went a bit nuts from alexscycle for the drivetrain, boxfresh 75s and cycroc hubs on TB14s. columbus 1" carbon fork is lovely, and it's completely silent except for the rattling of the cable stop holder in the LH brake lever. rides brilliantly. Might get a red paintjob in the future as I'm not a big fan of the black but not necessary atm.

  • Also Phil wood cogs on cycroc hubs is a no-go. The hub's theaded section is too wide/phil cog too narrow, so there's exposed thread when the cog is on all the way, the lockring up full doesn't touch the cog. EAI works just fine.

  • Fix the rattle with the biro pen spring trick

  • crecord ring would suit the crank better. nice collection, going to be a nice build all in all

  • lug accents are yellow so will go for yellow bar ribbon

  • New winter set up for the bob

  • Put spacer between the cog and lockring?

  • Do you t-rex's use your tails to stop you getting soggy bottoms in the wet winter months?

  • Re KingPin have you had any problems with pedal strike?

Another really easy way to drop weight is by switching the seat post. I can't remember what size they take, but it's fairly obscure so often end up being a bit more expensive a cheaper/easier option is using a 27.2mm and a shim.

Looks great I miss mine and still sort of wish I'd gone through with the semi-ww project I planned. But I've still got the correct size rims so one day I'll build one.
