  • New thread - Rise of the 47's

  • I havent found anything wrong with my BLB black mamba's

They are quite tough to get on if you have thick rim tape though

  • Whys so rude big man? :)) they are harder to put on if you let your gf to do it. Come on saturday spfg ride so we can chat about black mamba tires more ;)

  • I was at 49x17 its 34 patches i believe.. I skided out ultra sport quick..

  • Hmmm, maybe you should lose some weight then.

  • Thats actually my resolution from last new year.. still fat bro :)

  • Are blb paying you ;)?

  • Do you even ride a bike bro? :))

  • U got me bro ;))

  • So ultimately, the feature you are looking for in a tyre that you are intending to skid a lot, is a lot of hard compound rubber?
Just seen the lifeline tyres from wiggle, potentially a cheap choice. Guessing no one has tried them yet? Will be ordering a new rear tyre next month, worth giving one of these a shot?

  • I dont know if i would say BLB black mambas are the worst tyre ever. They are a fucker to get on mind!! I got a pair on a recent gumtree purchase and dont mind them. Im not too sure on their weight but they are certainly durable enough and ive not found them to be a bad ride.

  • Durano plus ftw. 1000 miles down and barely showing puncture belt yet. Rolls decent and costs like 20 euros.

  • worst tyre in the world

  • Dredging this back up to see what people are having luck with these days.

I probably need to buy a few 700 x 25 or 28c tyres soon. Would like good skid and puncture resistance but not looking for Schwalbe Marathon type levels of protection/weight.

I've been running Ribmos on my most used bike and think they are pretty good for skids and punctures and feel alright to ride, they are a bit pricey but its been lasting me pretty well so should probably just shell out on these again eh?

Saw Conti Ultrasport being mentioned a page or two back but there was mention of a 'Pro' model whichwasn't as good. Crc are now selling an Ultrasport II, anyone using them? The price is right and the reviews (for general use, not found anything fixed specific yet) are favourable...

I had a bit of a run of Vittoria Randos splitting on the sidewall rather catastrophically and it kind of put me off them for a while. I recently fitted one to a bike I don't ride too much/too far and it seems ok. I might have been over inflating them before. Maybe a bit shit to ride when you keep the pressure down?

Tried a Durano not so long ago, ripped it up pretty quickly. 2/10, would not skid again.

    Anything else worth looking at?

  • I haven’t been skidding in some years now but I always used to just stock up on zaffiros because they were under a tenner and only mildly shit.
Worth it even if they only last a couple months?

  • Seems they’re a bit more expensive these days. Nevermind

  • I actually have a set of zaffiro slicks on the wheels I was using at the velodrome. Might try one out on the street n see how it lasts.

  • my zaffiros (bought when they were under a tenner) have lasted a suprisingly long time...

    edit: 8 quid here

  • Gator hardshells just seem to last and last for me.

  • Gator hardshell still the ultimate skidder tyre, even standard gator skin is better than anything else. I’ve used rando, ribmo, durano, durano DD... all ride nicer but they do so because of their softer rubber.

  • any tyre rides like shit when it's got 13 massive flat spots

  • Yeah I really like how Gatorskins feel when they skid, probably the harder rubber so they don't grab like softer tyres.

Resent paying for them though, I'm only now coming to the end of my stash of part worn ones I got off customers bikes when I worked in the shop 6 years ago!

  • For what it's worth, i'm using a Rando again for the first time in ages and they are definitely not the same as they used to be (no longer red inside for one!) and they skid even better now imo.

Saying that, i can't remember how many layers they have and i'm totally expecting a pop a tube cause i've over estimated it

  • I agree about the price but reckon they last 3x as long as anything else.
