• The Brim Brothers is the one I was most looking forward to - real shame to read that initial review of it.

Concept wise it sounded great - I took my shoes to Colorado, with the pedals tucked inside, would have been great to have had the Brim Brothers cleats.

That said I acknowledge that I could have done this with Vectors - but I'd have needed to take a torque wrench and some washers with me, and I use Speedplays normally.

  • Looks like the power meter scene is going to change early next year with 4iiii, Brim Bros et all releasing their stuff.

I'm going to attempt to be smart and put my wallet away until the spring.

  • I'll be sticking with Powertap, although I'd not be averse to running a P2M if I started using internal hub gears/disc on a winter bike or similar.

I'm currently contemplating turning the G3+Archetype combo I bought as a training wheel into my race wheel by adding a RalTech disc cover. But then I have the 808 just sitting around doing nothing, much like the 404 Powertap. Too many wheels.

  • Apparently Vectors are awful. None of the Garmin guys use them.

  • Those 404's are mine..

  • My newly rebuilt G3 to HED Belgium is apparently at the workshop.

Hippy - if you want that LYC lemme know, it's got the bar mount etc, ~75 miles use and brand new batteries.

  • It doesn't feel like a great time to buy (it maybe never is) so I'm happy to be getting a NOS Powertap Elite+ at 40% cheaper than going Stages.

Maybe late next year 4iii will be worth considering and even cheaper.

  • Has anyone seen the Pioneer unit being stocked by a UK company?

  • How much do you want for it? Are you ever near the City?

  • I'm in W1 these days, meet you half way somewhere, possibly involving coffee?

  • Or beer.

You're probably over near my old office. I'll have a meeting booked.

  • Just off Cavendish square, let me know.

  • What kind of magnet & glue do I need to affix an SRM bottom bracket mounted cadence magnet?

  • I used a small bit of helicopter tape to affix a rare earth magnet to the chainstay, then simply put more magnets on top of the first one until you have them close enough to trip the Reed switch.

  • From where should I acquire these magnets?

  • eBay. I have loads spare if you want me to stick a couple in the post.

  • Magnets on order.

I assume when I swap the road chainrings for a Thorn single I'll need to re-measure the slope, yah?

  • I got mine from Amazon, the hardest part is spelling Neodyniumiumium.

  • urgh ftp test done. 256W which is ~4W/kg and 5min power of 330W ~5.25W/kg

Certainly something to work on. Power seemed much harder for perceived effort level on the turbo - I wonder if this is down to the lack of flywheel effect...

  • Power is often 10-20% down on the turbo.

  • Lack of cooling too

    • lack of motivation.
  • yeah - that might not have helped. I don't have a fan either... yet

I do find I generally go better when its warm/hot though but that was pretty excessive.

  • A clubmate is selling an Ultegra Stages, 175mm, £450 plus postage. PM me if interested.

2 watts more than my test, but of course given our relative weights you win on w/kg.

Were we roughly the same on the South Downs Puncture Fest Of Doom?
