  • I'll pop along too if @dancing james wants company.

  • They actually encourage you to overtake on solid line?

I got pulled over for doing that, apparently it's "okay" for motorists to overtake cyclists on solid line, but not the other way round...

  • At least High-vis for the deer

They tried this with ponies in the New Forest.

The number of pony deaths, as I understand it, increased - People (drivers, specifically) began looking out for hi-viz ponies.

Because not all ponies wore hi-viz, and the hi-viz wasn't viz if the pony was facing away, and because people were no longer looking out for the ponies themselves (or compensating in some other way), it became ponysquish time.

  • zOMG! Ponies!

  • Can't we do an lfgss flash mob?

  • Could we turn up and pretend we're all local drivers and residents and that actually the problem isn't cyclists but that there is a lack of cycling infrastructure which is leading to the perception that cyclists are the problem?

That, and the need to concrete over RP.

  • and pretend we're all local drivers and residents

In Richmond? Not sure I could afford the outfit

  • In for this ..

  • Who gets to eat the deer we kill? Din dins..

  • I think we should each bring a cake and a bottle of our favourite drink and have a party there.

  • Mmm cake.

  • Who gets to eat the deer we kill?

    Queenie

  • I got pulled over for doing that, apparently it's "okay" for motorists to overtake cyclists on solid line, but not the other way round...

Yep, that's pretty much how the law is worded:-

    HWC Rule 129

Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.
    Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 26

RSRGD reg 26 contains the gory details here:- http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2002/3113/regulation/26/made

So, as a cyclist, you can cross the solid white lines to overtake a stationary vehicle, a pedal cycle moving at 10mph or less, a horse moving at 10mph or less, but not a car moving at 10mph or less.

  • Can't recall the white line situation - it was coming down Sawyer's Hill.

  • Only solid white lines in RP are on Dark Hill and Broomfield Hill (i.e. the two major alps hills between Kingston Gate and Robin Hood Gate).

  • Trying to find the thread with the upside down BMW

  • Red trousers and Barbour are primed and ready...

  • Could also borrow my mums Labrador?

  • Fentoooooooooooooooon!

  • just in case this is yet to make it to the forum,

'How the cyclists ruined Richmond Park', Tom Hodgkinson, The Idler

Something terrible has happened to Richmond Park while I have been away. This haven of peace has been invaded by a terrible gang of crazed speed-freaks. They ignore the twenty mile an hour limit, and shout abuse at cars or people who might get in their way. They race each other and block the road to bumbling families on a day out. The shake their fists. They wear strange coloured body armour and frighten tweed-wearing ramblers. I’m talking about the cyclists

    entertaining so far.. :-)

  • "I mean, I’m a libertarian."

HAHAHAHA fuck off then. I hope you trip on a small stone reading Ayn Rand and no-one helps you.

  • Dunno, he makes a few valid points. I always have a laugh at the overly competitive types around RP - it isn't a dedicated race circuit. You wanna race, go enter a crit or TT somewhere.

He does have a face you'd love to smack with a day-glo pittard leather mitt though

  • frighten tweed-wearing ramblers

Why "tweed-wearing" ramblers particularly? Do they not frighten ramblers wearing nylon cagoules, Spiderman outfits, nothing? Which roadies, come to think of it, have you ever seen wearing "body armour"? More pertinently, when the fuck will the Idler start hiring columnists who can actually write something other than this tedious, hack-level shite?

  • This guy is doing the classic 'the park is for everyone to enjoy as long as that enjoyment is strictly within my framework for what is acceptable'

p.s. I don't think I've ever seen anyone racing around RP. Seen plenty of people going moderately quickly, but never particularly dangerously or aggressively.

  • Wait till you see London Dynamo chain gang going around ..
