I really fancy an oldschool fixed TT bike, might have to hunt down a drilled fork for the Jowan.

http://argoscycles.com/aero-forks/ is what I was planning for the EB.

Yeah, they're f'kin rad and I'd love a set but they're £20 more than I paid for my frameset. When I win the lottery....

Damn that's good :D drool!

What options do I have for a decent 50T+, 130bcd, 1 1/8" chainring?
-
• #309
Goldtec track rings

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've got a 49t Goldtec and a 55t Gebhardt: the Geb is lighter.
Both good quality though.

• #312
TA also an option.
-
• #313
Interesting...and should I be worried about a thicker Goldtec chainring affecting chainline?...
-
• #314
@umop3pisdn - Yeah I've using a TA Alize for the past couple of year, which is still in great condition. Was just wondering what other options are available really.

Never noticed that until you mentioned it, but I've not had a problem.
The Goldtec is reversible too, which the Geb isn't.
-
• #316
Goldtecs are almost indestructible, but quite heavy though, if you're bothered about that. (Quick plug for my spare 53t for anyone lurking).

Fixed.
Gears.

Get your head down! Fixed slice is rad

Just get a White Industries hub. I had one on my lopro with vertical dropouts and it worked wonders and was, crucially, safe to ride...

How much adjustment do you get out of them though: I'd need quite a lot to cope with different gearing.
Pricey too.

Argos aero forks are so rad. It's a bit scary when you take your front wheel out and see how much the blades flex with no axle in between though!
umop3pisdn, Did you tap your hed axle for bolts rather than track nuts? ^that picture makes me want to get a qr axle and do it...

Did you tap your hed axle for bolts rather than track nuts?
He did, using my tap. If your cones and lock nuts are M9×1 you can just swap to a Sora axle (buy the whole hub for under a tenner) and tap that, it's already the right length and bore. The current HED aluminium front axle isn't suitable for tapping as it has hexagonal holes for the Allen key used to adjust/dismantle it, so there's not enough material to make threads. I had a custom Ti axle and stainless steel cones/locknuts made for mine, because I'm a tart.

Because I like swimming against the tide? Because I'd rather be an also-ran with an excuse? Because I can get more for my money fixed? Because I'm ten different kinds of pissed-off with the local Strava-heroes and want to prove a point?
And I need something nice to stick my bling-bling-lockring on...
