In-ears with Comply Isolation tips. Passive noise cancellation is so much better than active.
I use klipsch x10i with the comply foam tips on all my long haul flights - never had an issue. Reduces all noise to a very background low level. Even when I'm not listening to music or watching anything I generally have them in because they block out the noise. And they're comfy for 12+ hours.

Best bang for buck noise cancelling? Flying long-haul next week, and I found engine noise very noticable last time I flew with by bose AE2s. Not looking to replace them per se, but if there is an effective option that won't break the bank I may well pick them up?
