  • Wow... Just wow...

  • stratos ... nice

  • That's how they left the factory isn't it?

  • In case you missed it...

    Good episode.

  • Brm - legend. Craner is a scary place to loose it! Bet the old squid ring was nibbling chunks out of the vinyl there....

  • A little bit of poo definitely tried to come out! The old squid ring was clenched up far too tight for that to happen, though.

I tried all day to take the left without lifting off and the one time I kept the power on, the arse end of the car came around and it was game over.

    (Leather, for the record...)

    Good episode.

Really good episode. Fab skills are too crazy.

  • Supercharged 80's lancia anyone......

  • anyone got any experience with '05 on audi a3s? looking at a sportback. 2.0T or 3.2. Quattro. DSG.

  • Been running round in a S1 fulvia since saturday. Have to convert convert the gearbox to the remote gearchange off a s2 so has a shorter throw as the car is a race/track day car. For road use it has the standard steels with ropey michellin x tyres that are an unknown age. I can spin the wheels in any gear in the wet! It is running a mix of 145r14 rears and 155r 14 fronts with tubes as the steel rims aren't for radial even though the car was designed to run radial tyres.

So I've been roped in to rebuild a set of solex 40's as the spindles have so much play as the spindles are bushed and not bearings as in webers and dellortos. So time to buy a funny drill bit and then ultrasonically clean the carbs, new rubber inlet manifold. Install some longer lower suspension arms, off a HF, to increase front camber.

Repack the wheel bearings and install carb shut off springs so that if the accelerator cable breaks the carbs shut off. Then a general service, set the cam timing and see how the camchain is.

Not bad for a car that cost more than an E type to buy!!!

First time in an age that I have look forward to working on a car and not having to d0 any welding.

  • 2.0 would be just as quick real world and far better on fuel...especially as you can get it remapped for even more power!

  • yeah, I hear you. there seem to be a lot more around with the 3.2/quattro/dsg combination - cheaper, too. prob wouldn't bother with the remap.

  • Just had a lovely bill to clear the DPF on my 2.0 TDI.

Dude had to remap to get it out of limp mode and thrash it to burn the soot off.

That'll teach me for crawling round Surrey traffic jams at 10mph.

    Joy.

  • Looks very nice.

  • It's a horrible car and I am not jealous at all. :oP

  • As it's quite light, what's it gonna be like in the wet with that power?

  • As it's quite light, what's it gonna be like in the wet with that power?

People always say stuff like this, but I'm yet to drive a car that is impervious to decent throttle control, gentle steering inputs, and a brain that manages to filter the urge to just stamp on the accelerator like a 17 year old exiting McDonalds.

  • I was more asking how fun it might be in the wet ;)

  • I was more asking how fun it might be in the wet ;)

Apologies, I thought you were going all Top Gear on us there for a moment.

  • Fucking awesome!

  • Can we ask how much?

  • Front and rear ends are allin one clam shell jobbies. So a few bolts and a new one hides the damage.

Or is it just the rear?

  • Stereo affects the handling, remove at once.

Have driven the earlier ones, less bhp, and they were a hoot. Think a capri is a bit more predictable than a mid engined, all the weight between the wheels fun car.

  • Don't lift off and follow through?
