  • Just want to give a bit of praise to Marmot. Bought a half price speed light gore text jacket for half price last year. Was really happy with it but the wire in the brim cracked pretty soon after I got it and has just started to make a small hole in the fabric. I emailed the European marmot site to explain. They said they'll replace it no problem, no questions asked, didn't even provide pictures. Just have to wait till they come back into stock in November. Added bonus, I get a black one instead of the gash highlighter yellow one I have now. Happy boy

  • Anyone seen the Proviz Reflect360 in the flesh? Looks interesting...

  • Been looking at the gilet version online too - there are a couple of newspaper mentions of it somewhere (think I read something in the Standard about them). Looks like it does exactly what it says on the tin when it comes to reflective points.

  • Bit warm for the PT Jacket this morning, even with just a base layer underneath.

I almost wish it was cold enough to justify it.

  • Anyone know of a alternative to the Rapha Transfer jacket?

  • Any lightweight down jacket. There are literally hundreds - most of which look better than Rapha's offering, which looks like something a Viennese businessman would wear under his overcoat in December.

Generally comes up in these discussions as a cheap alternative

  • @B0N0R Arcteryx hybrid alpha sl is a mix. Paclite in the areas not in contact with bags, hardshell in the hard wearing areas around zips, elbows, bags etc. I have one. It's great.

  • Arcteryx... I always want to buy their gear - but then I would also like to own a house at some point. I'm not sure it's possible to reconcile this.

  • Houses only keep you dry when you're in them. How restrictive.

  • Arcteryx is overpriced for what you get these days.
Take a look at Westcomb, quality stuff still mostly made in Vancouver.
Usually NeoShell or eVent for the waterproofs.

  • Thanks for that...

Would like it with a dropped hem..

  • @dan
I picked up an Arcteryx atom jacket in teh sale. Primaloft filling. It's top notch. From their shop. WAs only £90

Shits all over the uniqlo thing.

  • Damn that is a good deal!

  • I've got plenty of good mountain kit from other manufacturers which works well for my needs - I just like their kit.

  • Actually the Rapha transfer jacket looks great. Though I guess not everyone can pull it off.

  • Though it is in no way a riding jacket

  • ^^^ Mountain gear fetish?

  • Including you?

  • Not that kind.

  • Ugh. Now I feel bad. Happy?

  • These jackets are great i have one from a few years ago, way too hot for riding though. Almost too hot even for walking about town

  • Event 3-layer is the best compromise between fully waterproof, breathable and hard-wearing in my experience. My six-year-old Rab Latok Alpine weights about 400g - not light compared to the thinner membranes, but much more durable. Event actually benefits from regular washing, and ironing or tumble drying improves water repellency. Very easy to care for.
