  • Carphone Warehouse and Barclays have fucked me around loads while trying to buy the z3 compact. Now the money has gone out of my account but isn't shown on my statement and I have no open order with them.

  • Y u buy phone from company entering administration?

  • Does anyone have an invite for a one plus one they would be happy to sling my way?

  • Confused with Phones4U, no ?

  • Buying handset outright? Why not direct from sony? Or cheap HK supplier.

But that situation sounds rubbish. Did you order online?

Yeah buying handset outright. Cheap HK supplier (Clove) doesn't have it in the colour I want. Tried to buy from Sony directly, barclays declined it thinking it was fraud. Then tried to buy from Carphone Warehouse, they said it went through then said it was out of stock (despite it saying in stock on their website).

A few days later I called up to check if it was actually out of stock, the guy said they had it, tried to push the order through and the CW internal system blocked it for fraud as I wanted it shipped to a different address than the invoice address (then why make it an option!?).

The guy at CW tried to put it through manually and Barclays blocked it as fraudulent again, although now the money has gone out of my bank but isn't shown the the statement breakdown. I called CW to see if I had an outstanding order with them and I don't.

So now I have no money, no phone and it isn't shown on my statement so I can't even claim it back.

  • Funny enough while playing the same game, it's not been getting as hot these last couple of days... The same applies to the yellowish screen, it's (touch wood) gone...

  • FUUUUK - that is a nightmare. Damn, I hope someone finally sorts that out. I missed out on a flight (well a good price for a flight) because of over zealous barclays anti fraud. It's applaudable that they do track and flag suspicious purchases but also frustrating, and they don't do anything to help resolve incidents like this.

I'm hoping you have the guys name you spoke to who pushed the order through? The only way to resolve is to waste more of your time, get hold of him and get them to ship it to a store for pick up (with ID etc.) total faff, good luck.

Didn't get his name and I don't think it would help much anyway. The second person I spoke to said I will need to print off the statement and take it to a shop and speak to someone there. But I can't because it hasn't shown on my statement yet.

  • Ah I didn't have the yellow screen issue. From what I'd read that affected earlier units but later ones were either better or didn't have it at all. Are you still running the official 33R build or have you flashed one of the CM nightly ROMs? I was having a few touchscreen issues (nothing like as bad as some had reported) after I updated to 33R but the nightlies have seemed to pretty much fix it, although I still get a very occasional ghost swipe whilst typing.

  • I got the z3 compact from clove, fast delivery, and I'm pretty happy with it, I'd recommend getting charging dock, or magnetic charge cable off ebay cos removing the port cover is annoying.. also I'm worried it might fall off it's tether...

  • Fuck you

  • Clove selling the Moto G 2104 for £145, the same price as eBuyer.

Clove's "phone finder" tool sucks, doesn't include any useful range filters... tickbox for storage, but no sliding scale for "at least n GB storage".

They should throw that away and do a deal with GSMArena, whose search tool is rather good.

  • The yellow screen only lasted a couple of days, I had the same issue with my iphone when it was brand new... seems like some screens need time to warm up (or to cool down).

I am using the CM nightly ROM, I think... I am having to reboot the phone probably every other day, it just hangs for no reasons... but so far I really like it, if I am honest, I still perfer ios, but this phone is so much faster and has much bigger screen than my iphone 4... so all is well with it.

  • Had a touchy-feely on an iPhone 6 tonight... My N5 is still way more rad...

It'll be a year old come Hallowe'en... Which is nuts, can't see myself upgrading anytime soon ..

  • I feel the same.

I saw a 1+ phone yesterday. Oh it's nice... but it's just too large. I think the N5 is about perfect for how I use a smartphone. I'm just not watching videos and playing games like other people and I don't need a larger screen to do all of the communication + web browsing + news + productivity stuff.

That said, Felicity's phone is near dead... an old Nexus... the battery barely lasts until lunch time and it's so slow (3G not 4G). So we'll probably replace hers, and I see the inevitable in which she takes my phone and I have to find a replacement. Would I buy an N5 brand new today? Unlikely... the price hasn't dropped and the hardware is a year old, so I should be looking for the next phone.

  • Hmm, so it's just hanging for no reason? What are you doing when that happens? I think I've had one or two random reboots so far, nothing since moving to nightlies.

So did you flash a nightly at some point or just stick with the regular updates? Regular would mean you're on 33R. This doesn't have the touchscreen firmware fix (and it's missing a few other features too. Nightlies mean you'd lose some of the oneplus specific apps (camera etc) but these can be flashed separately and don't need to be reinstalled every time you update.

  • Get her a Moto 4G ?

Having got one to replace a borked N4, I have to say the smaller size/curved back/soft-touch plastic is just really nice to hold. Also cheaper than upgrading your N5?

  • I proposed that straight away, but she doesn't like the look of it. Too cheap and plasticy in her eyes, but I think it looks really nice and is a great price and the hardware is solid and battery life is good. Ah well.

  • Really? Thats a shame - its so nice in the hand, and as you say, great battery life

  • I got mrs_com a MotoG when she finally realised she'd jumped the shark by getting a Nokia Windoze phone. She loves it. Doesn't feel cheap at all.

  • Z3 Compact?

If my n5 were to die today, that's probably what I'd replace it with.

  • Z3 Compact was what took her eye on a walk through mobile phone shops.

High St mobile phone shops are crazy. Felicity wanted the phone and we would've paid on the spot. But none of them were selling it unlocked (able to use our existing Three SIMs) and so we came away with nothing.

May have to order it via Clove or something.

  • Nexus 6 is looking kind of large
