And mine has the Larrington after riding your route advice ;-}

I've done the Dean a couple of times before - I nicked the route off the audax site when someone mentioned it earlier this year but I could do the actual audax. Think I did it the week before. The gods punished me for stealing gps tracks :)
EDIT: That's wrong, it was the 3Down, not the Dean.

There's some other genuinely fast people that do this so you could have a crack at holding their wheel. Between now and the event I'm going to investigate whether I can off ride validation by gps. You wouldn't even need to stop.

I'm intrigued by these two events...

One of those is about deep fried butter and the other one is about a pub collapsing from too much dancing.
I'm not sure either of these is the fault of audaxing.

I've put my entry in for the Poor Student. Just mulling over signing up for the Dean.

Just joined AUK and entered AAAnfractious.

This seems to fit as well under the audax thread as anywhere -
I was having a look over at the yacf forum earlier and noticed that Teethgrinder has indicated he may be having a crack at Tommy Godwin's record (yes, the 'unbreakable' most miles ridden in a year one) in 2015.

Fair play to the bloke, it's a massive undertaking.

(To save others looking it up, Tommy Godwin rode 75,065 miles in 1939, averaging 205 miles daily)

What's this about: https://twitter.com/steve_abraham74/status/517093156899536896
Champs points? This audax lark sounds more competitive than I thought.

I hadn't realised Neville had died. I rode a couple of times in the Alps with him and he was a true gentleman and great company.

The champs points is supposed to be just a bit of fun. I get the impression that people in AUK are more impressed by finishing under tough conditions than by finishing first.
It looks like recently people have been a bit more vocal about chasing the points total however. I also get the impression some people regard this as a bit 'off', a bit against the spirit of the thing.

The commitment you have to make to have a chance is beyond most people.
The vast majority of AUKs simply don't care about the points championship.
It all comes from the simple fact that if you assign points for doing things then some people are going to compete to see who can get the most, regardless of whether there's an official competition or not.
In a similar way, someone has to finish an Audax first and so people try and "win" them.

That doesn't appeal to me at all...
uncrosses fingers

On the AAAnfractious route sheet, when it says "PENN Street Info Control", does that mean the brevet card will have a question on it?
-
• #2795
Yep. Will be something like a detail from a sign, distance on milepost, etc
-
• #2796
Yes.
-
• #2797
Cool. I can copy someone else's at the finish ;)
-
• #2798
That could be a lot of waiting.

• #2799
So is anyone else considering the Dean.
-
• #2800
I'll take that as a compliment :)
Oh yeah, I saw you riding down Grays Inn Road ages ago but forgot to mention it in Spotted. So, err, spotted.
@hippy, The Dean 300k will come with a gps track. Also comes with an option of two start times; 6am and 7.30am.
