  • using uxbridge rd is is quite a good idea, do you do that?

  • It's definitely more cycle-friendly than the A40 or the A4 and I've ridden all of them.

  • I will be using it from now on.

what was you morning commute like, today? you rarely talk about yourself in this forum.

  • I had to stop discussing my life when the fan mail started to overwhelm my local post office.

  • I commuted today, which involves travelling from my home to my place of work. It's a two part process, as I'll be returning home at the end of the working day.

A number of modes of travel are open to me. I picked one of them and it was definitely successful.

I think we'll all look back on our years as wage slaves with a particular fondness for the commuting component. Life is a much richer tapestry for it, and that's why it's so important we share these inspiring tales on threads like this.

  • Came in on the fixed today after a few weeks using the MTB. Whoever says using a 13kg MTB will not help make you stronger cyclist is wrong. I practically flew in today on my 6kg Mash.

    I got the train today

  • True, you want to make sure to put your life on the bike on the radar.

  • Confirmation bias.

  • No one ever said that though

  • Lights. Bright lights. Arggh.

Was cycling along a bike path and had three other cyclists heading towards me. One had a light so bright its only possible energy source was a wormhole to the heart of the sun. I couldn't see anything behind it at all, and as it got closer I simply couldn't anything else but the light...the deadlights...everyone dances there.

It was actually a massive ballache so I had a go at the cyclist as the mysterious, unseen creature meant past and I was left with a dull orange glow burnt across my retina, saying for fuck's sake, do you need a light that bright? I couldn't see a thing, but didn't get a reply to.

Anyway frankly it was dangerous. Lights that bright are for off-roading on an MTB, or when travelling down unlit lanes, but in lit urban areas massively unnecessary and severely debilitating to cyclists coming in the other direction. I can still see it when I close my eyes.

  • Yeah, there's someone who heads east on the hipster spice route I've seen a couple of times that looks like a moving fucking rave. Bar and helmet muti flashing craziness. Really distracting.

  • Is that the dude with 2 or 3 huge bright lights on his handlebars too, wears jacket and gloves even in this weather and has some lights on his helmet too? MTB?

Yeah, that'll happen when you ride a bike that's 50% lighter

  • Mad how some are wearing winter gear at the moment. One guy this morning had on those mitten gloves that look like lobster claws. he was drenched in sweat too.

  • That's my mate Kevin, he has Sweaty Lobster Syndrome, quite sensitive about it.

  • The only known cure is to wear a balaclava.

  • and hotpants

  • Sounds like the same dude. You can't miss him. Well, you could actually be so blinded that you do miss him..

  • It will make you fitter. The 13kg won't make you fitter though, just the 'riding a bike' bit.

  • hah, that famous wit.

but you are being dismissive, you can tell me, unless, is someone bullying you here for discussing your life?
