Well I haven't done any long 'audax' rides. I'm not sure my training rides count.
I might have a crack at the SR stuff next year then. Any idea of the best events to do? ie. the ones with accurate GPS tracks available. :) Probably best in the PBP thread eh?

One of the old audax hands will no doubt be along shortly to let you know which ones are suitable BRM-level qualifying rides. I would guess you'll have to plan a careful timetable but it will at least add to the challenge / excitement...
As for me: next target 300k whimper

Careful timetable? It's 2,3,4,600k? The 600k is the only one that needs a bit of thought.
Do they have to be organised ones or can you do 'Perms' or make your own up? -

All the BRM stuff is highlighted on the AUK calendar (in red) http://www.aukweb.net/events/?From=25%2F09%2F2014&To=12&Days=&Category=&Dist_min=&Dist_max=&Aaa=&Region=
Lots of stuff has been added in the last few weeks. Think I'll be putting a bit more effort into audaxing the first half of next year...

Here's how @marcusjb described it anyway

They have to be BRM events, see above :)
edit: lots of them will be in a PBP year of course

Right on. Thanks guys. I'll get my DS to sort it all out..

Should I?
aukweb.net/events/detail/14-887/#moreDo it. You're clearly not going to have a problem anyway being superhuman! But 3000m over a 200 is manageable even for us mere mortals.
I did the Neville Chanin memorial 'Over the Severn' back in August and it was the best audax I've ever done, absolutely beautiful and the hills never felt gratuitous (widely known to be north of 3000m, ignore the Strava elevation, it's definitely wrong). Had been meaning to mention it in this thread. I had a very warm welcome from the Evesham Wheelers who run it and it was ridiculously pretty.
The ride obviously means a lot to them, Neville was their former President and a bit of a legend.
Members of the Cyclists Touring Club, heard that Neville, 74, from Stroud, was on his bike the day before his death on April 17.
"His final mileage was 645,434," said Anton Newell, from Moreton-in-Marsh, who gave the eulogy at the service at Gloucester Crematorium on Friday. -

Poor Student to kick off? 3rd of Jan means it's more likely to be the Cold Student.
-
• #2761
Anfractuous is definitely hilly but nothing too silly. Lovely ride too, well worth doing.
(My records say I did it in 2007 and had an hour more riding time than a similar length Essex Audax with only ~2000m climbing.)

Well yes but get you scary thoughts in early. The Bryan Chapman scenic route on the other hand is as good as anything!
-
• #2763
Some Welsh rides would be good. I really enjoyed the few sportives I did there years ago and I've TT'd over there. Really pretty. Good call.

I'll be doing the Hopey New Year, probably even colder up here...
I'm intrigued by these two events...

http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/15-501/Pub lunch during the day, should be nice and sleepy as I jump on the train after work. Arrive a few hours later with supper provided. There's a long slog out before breakfast, squeeze in a mid-morning nap as the coffee wears off and the incentive of finishing before the pubs shut...

Wales is surprisingly fixed friendly although the scenic route does pick out the steeper versions of various climbs. (Never done the scenic, only the 'normal' BCM route).
@hippy Elenith 300, Brevet Cymru 400 or Snowdon & Coast 400, Bryan Chapman 600
Although the Severn Across 400 is probably better for you (Chalfont St Peter start, plus it's Willesden.)

It's lovely. Was fat and unfit so I took gears though. What was it, 2010? ...
Ah yes: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/127153/?offset=475#7380607

Sounds good, half tempted to try a couple of events fixed... Will see what shape I'm in by Christmas...

Poor Student. The Dean. Brevet Cymru. Bryan Chapman.

I am doing the Less Anfractuous route I didn't fancy the AAA route apparantly the last 40k is brutal
-
• #2770
Are these all qualifying events? Early enough for PBP? I'm going to be racing properly again next year so it could get interesting swapping bikes each weekend.
-
• #2771
200, 300, 400, 600. I'll get the diary out.
-
• #2772
If you want a real sufferfest as your 600k qualifier then this one is legendary.

Edit: apologies for going a bit Rapha there

• #2773
Unless you just audax on your TT bike. Suck the haters.
-
• #2774
Not much point if the end goal is to qualify for PBP and aerobars aren't allowed in PBP.
-
• #2775
Shit, imagine the beers and pies after that I'd need to maintain my 'figure'.
I think you can pre qualify by doing them in 2014, but if you haven't done any long rides you can rattle off a quick SR series in the first few months of 2015.
