• Right - I'm going to have a crack at building a some winter wheels so I don't have to worry about rim wear.

Yes - I could buy some R501s or some such, but I've fancied having a go and can borrow a truing stand and (hopefully) a tension meter from a friend.

I'm probably going to go for 32h Open Pro. Are there any options for a hub with a steel freehub body? I tend to wreck alu hubs by mashing away and then can't get the cassette off.

I've got a set of wheels with Hope hubs with a steel body at the moment, but it's not economical to buy a Hope hub and then replace the hub body at £60. Trying to do this on a reasonable budget.

Mods - move to the wheelbuilding thread if you want. I couldn't find it and this is where the cool wheel guys hang out.

  • Why not get the Shimano 105 hubs? they're very reliable and have a steel freebody.

Did you grease the body and use cassette with alu sprocket carrier?

Cheap cassette will eat up the alu freebody quickly.
