  • Zipp stems are excellent too

  • 7050 Kalloy stems for £16 from Taiwan, with the printed graphics wiped.

  • I've ordered 110mm version of Kalloy last week; will report when I get it.

I'd rate Zipp SL finishing kit but its pricey; the non SL version is not so pricey but nothing special. Same with Easton EA90 and Ritchey WCS (goes up to 25 degrees).

Thomson is alright and pricey due to hipster tax. X2 stem has the lowest stack if thats a concern. And the layback post is only 16mm.

3T I think is pricey for what it is.

Pro PLT stuff is nice, light and not that pricey. They also have a 10 degree stem.

Fizik is pricey but stem goes up to 20 degrees and you can get one of these mounts: http://www.barflybike.com/fizik/

  • merkcx is 57 cm tt and 62 c-t seat tube,
initial stay cleaning has shown rust has not penetrated surface, just got under chrome, but, there seems to be a lot of loose shit/particles inside, have shaken and some rust particles have fallen, so stay tube interiors may be quite corroded, alternatively , makes for a great set of maracas
i'll keep the alan as a beater, my size but needs a drive side dt cable boss (any thoughts on sourcing in london's london?), the modial ab came with campag triomphe, had a severly stuck post, so binned frame in the Dam
modial aa came with nuovo record parts

  • I like the Fizik stuff Henners- the Dogma we had on holiday was full Fizik finishing kit and it was good to use and well made.

  • I've had one on the winter hack for a year. No issues.

Details like the angled drilling and double faceplates make it hold really strong from very little metal... all you can ask from a stem really.

  • Ritchey?
Still about the best weight for the price on the good alu stuff. And quite nicely made too.

  • "Beater" got wider tyres with the help of smaller rim size and a longer fork. Stupid chainstay clearances at the back, but getting the axle forward in the track ends should help a little.

  • That is one rad bike, any plans for front mudguard?

  • Thanks, it's fun to ride. I've got 26" mudguards, but haven't had time to install them yet. The rear mudguard is still 700c and a bit narrow too. Not sure what would be the best way to attach the front mudguard at the brake hole, since there's a pretty big vertical gap between the fork and the tyre.

  • Ah, thank you. Good point using two bolts to connect the bits.

  • Supernova bracket requires tape and shifter to be removed from handlebar in order to fit it. Back in the box it goes.

  • Sweet bar/stem setup! What is it?

  • On-one mary and an unbranded CrMo MTB stem (also sold as ritchey, it seems). Better visible in this photo, sorry for spamming:

It was a bit of a pain to install the bars. I had to hack off small triangular bits from the stem clamp, like this:

  • Is that the fork you show me a while ago that I wanted to put on my bike?

Clearance look great with that tyres, what size is it? I'm hoping I can fit my 27.5 MTB tyres in that clearance for monster CX fun.

  • That's the one. The tyres are 26"/2.0" conti race kings, measured a bit under 50mm mounted. There's not a huge amount of clearance, something like 4-5mm to either side. The top of the fork is squarish, so it might be pretty similar with a larger rim diameter.

  • Awesome contraption @Paradroid

  • Perfect, look like it'll be a perfect gravel grinder.

    #trendsetter

  • I posted this in SSCX, but thought I'd post it here too since its my latest project

  • Rad, need to get my SSCX project rolling.

  • The Pompetamine looks awesome, I feel sorry for mine that while I owned it, I never let it look good.

  • Boom. Orange

  • Orange is the new rad.
