  • How far away is the ignore feature?

Gap between meetings... I have a working version of the backend for forums already.

    Moving on to items next.

Ignoring people is the most complex scenario and will be done last.

  • I don't ignore anyone - not with forum code anyway.
I just need to cut out a lot of noise - regional forums, polo, etc.

  • I'm working on this in increments, and need to do a lot more testing. But... if you fancy being a guinea pig for when I push this code to the server, let me know via PM the forum IDs that you'd like to ignore.

NB: This is backend code, there is no interface to it right now, you cannot unignore something I put on your ignore list... it is very effective. I'm not even going to make promises about when an interface will come, or whether I'll respond to pleas to remove something ignored.

But... if you're happy with that, I'll test the new code on you.

  • Yeah, I'll have a look for IDs and send them to you.

So you want 523 from the below yeah?
    http://www.lfgss.com/microcosms/523/

  • Also... a question.

    • Ignoring a forum will remove the forum and all of the items within the forum from everywhere.
    • Ignoring a conversation will remove the conversation from everywhere.
    • Ignoring an event will remove the event from everywhere.

What does ignoring a profile do?

My current feeling is that some things should get through as to take them out potentially ignores far more than just the content of that person.

    • For forums created by the profile = Show
    • For conversations created by the profile = Show
    • For events created by the profile = Show
    • For comments created by the profile = Ignore
    • For private messages instigated by the profile = Ignore (prevent addition of yourself to it, by them)
    • For comments on private messages by their profile = Ignore
    • For profile in profile lists = ignore

Sound about right with people's expectations?

There is a catch though... I can't easily remove ignored profiles from the people picker that drives things like the @mentions menu, the event invite thing, etc. It's a minor detail, but essentially those menus don't actually know who is asking the question, and without that I cannot filter the list.

  • Profiles should remain I reckon. How else will you remember who you've ignored? :)

The other stuff sounds reasonable. People just want to hide their comments right?

  • I'm going to give people a page that lists the things they have ignored.

Ignored things will always be directly accessible if you know the URL, but will never be returned in collections (search results, forum contents, comments on an item, etc).

So there will be this one page, that will be exempt from that, a super simple list of the people, forum and threads you've ignored.

    That's how you'll unignore something.

  • Sounds beaut. I've sent you a list of forums to kill in the face. Thanks!

  • Will be done momentarily.

  • I know it's a minor thing but I don't want the button alignment bug on the mobile Following page to be lost. Should I get a github logon to log it, or have you seen it?

  • Github helps me not forget things.

  • For private messages instigated by the profile = Ignore (prevent addition of yourself to it, by them)

does this mean people will be able to see they have been ignored if they try to send the ignorer a PM?

  • One 'issue' with Persona is that it requires you to be connected in the browser you're using.
Just tried to login on my girlfriend iPad on Chrome and she's using to connect to gmail and Google services.
Persona told me I can't login unless I disconnect her and login with my account.
Gonna try and see if it works if I then log her back in Chrome. It should as I guess LGFSS keeps the token session only (until that expires)

  • Presently yes, but the ignore is so effective that they're not going to be able to contact the person ignoring them.

Actually, I can hide PMs started by the ignored person, so no... I'll just leave this as-is, they can imagine they've sent something but it won't show for the receiver.

  • Ignoring stuff:

    • Conversations = removes them from search results, forum listings, following, today, etc
    • Events = removes them from search results, forum listings, following, today, etc
    • Forums = removes them (and all of their contents) from search results, home page, following, today, etc
    • People = removes them from the list of profiles, all of their comments from any items (inc PMs), removes any PMs started by them from your PM list

I'll move on to notifications... basically email notifications will not be triggered for any of the above scenarios.

  • Shirely you use incognito mode on anybody else device?

  • @Velocio

Had this a couple of times this evening

  • Aye, saw that quite often over the last few days and again this morning.

  • +1

  • I'd love to find out which hosting facility CloudFlare are using and to move our virtual servers closer to it. Everything on the reporting side says that the sites are fine, and waiting for requests... but then CloudFlare occasionally shows that and I swear it's not at our end. It's most likely just transient network conditions, but it's super frustrating to try and debug.

  • Get the CloudFlare-error-screen a lot today (for me it's CloudFlare Frankfurt by the way).

  • Just press refresh.

So long as our systems are up 100%, the issues are probably temporal and related to networks. It's frustrating for sure, but a refresh will solve all things.

  • Just press refresh.

Yes, this works, just wanted to give you a headsup that it happens elsewhere as well..

  • Happenes evry 10 or so tabs for me

  • Lots for me too.
