Bleh. Not looking good for Yes. Think I'm gonna go back to bed. Disappointing that the Westminster shills instilled so much fear into the people. I feel your pain Scotland, but don't worry, in the future after prime ministers Miliband and then Johnson have sold the NHS, abolished all social housing, and installed another nuclear base north of the border, your chance will come again. Goodnight.

Disappointing stuff from the Scots. Can't believe the majority of the population voted against having more self-determination because they were afraid of letting go of the sweet sweet teat of Westminster.

Our politics are rotten and we need change. In my opinion, Scottish independence was the wrong solution, but things can't go back to normal. Would be great if the intellectual energy and engagement in Scotland catches on across the UK.

My room for independence! 100% voted yes!

Cameron claiming vindication? The sooner the double-chinned, one-term wonder goes the better. If anything had an impact on checking Yes momentum it was Labour hitters like Brown and Reid. Miliband should also go.

You might be failing to comprehend the small-c conservatism that defines Britishness.
If it is at all possible that things go back to normal, it will. The only possible chance that things do not go back to normal is a renewed and reinvigorated movement that puts relentless pressure on the current and future government to make changes that prevent it going back to normal.

You mean that the British public put up a fight against central government to stand for what they believe in? Don't think that has happened since the miners strikes. Thatcher has knocked the stuffing out of most citizens and the Tories are quite happy for government to do anything providing they can continue to live in the Home Counties in complete fucking ignorance without getting hit in the pocket. Solidarity is a thing of the past and Scotland have missed a big opportunity to rekindle that sort of movement. Perhaps it was too much too soon. Somehow I think a lot of people will regret this for a long time to come.

A bit of an anti climax eh. Like most modern politics IMO.

Biggest turnout in any vote since 1950. Swing from 30 to 45% in favour of independence. 16 and 17 year-olds voting for the first time, and becoming better informed and more involved in the running of their country. It has also weakened and divided the tory party. I think alot can still be achieved without the drawing of new borders.

A fantastic day for democracy, the people of Scotland should be proud. I understand why so many wanted to leave, and if I was in their position I might well have wanted to as well. But now they've voted to stay - for which most people I know will be hugely grateful, please don't treat the whining of a few nasty rightwingers as representative - I'm looking forward to seeing the Scots, along with people from all over these islands, help build a fairer society and say fuck off to the Tories and UKIP. For me, the ideal situation would involve House of Lords reform, kicking out the drunken old toffs and building a proper federal upper house with strong representation of all the regions of the UK. In the short term, I hope people all over the UK inspired by the IndyRef decide to get behind Ed Miliband and Labour in the next UK election. He may not be perfect and I'm definitely not an unqualified Labour supporter, but at the next election they are the only serious chance of making progress toward a fairer society.

Random thoughts
- With a turnout of 85% nationwide I don't think we'd ever return a Tory government again
- Online activism and engagement is on the verge of becoming more important than the mainstream media
- Much of the Yes vote was against the current government. Harness that energy and boot them out at the general election.
- The Tories are trying to carve this up to their own advantage by rushing a constitutional settlement before the general election. They shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.
- Miliband has to go. Labour has to re-engage its base.
- Don't slip back into lethargy and cynicism if you want to change politics. Let's take inspiration from Yes and change Britain.

Cameron is desperate to head off Farage. I'm more interested in what Gordon Brown does next, though.

True, but his replacement would most likely be to the right of Miliband.

Talking of Farage:
'The English are 86% by population of this Union. They’ve been left out of all of this for the last 18 years. We still have a situation where Scottish MPs can vote in the House of Commons on English-only issues. I think what most English people want is a fair settlement.'
Hang on, doesn't his party have the words United Kingdom in it?
